    • Monty Oum has passed away

      matt

Our friend, inspiration and co-worker Monty Oum passed away yesterday afternoon at 4:34 PM surrounded by people who loved him very much. Ten days ago Monty suffered a severe allergic reaction during a simple medical procedure that left him in a coma. Although he fought bravely, his body was not able to recover. During his time in the hospital he was well cared for and never in pain at any time.

Monty is survived by his wife Sheena, his father Mony, his brothers Woody, Sey, Chivy and Neat, and his sisters Thea and Theary, as well as a countless number of fans and friends. We were so proud to be a part of his life and we will miss him greatly.

Your generosity during the hours after the public statement on Friday will help his family deal with the costs of his care and his passing. You made an incredible difference during a difficult time and we cannot thank you enough.

As for honoring Monty, we will do that in our own way. In lieu of flowers or gifts, we ask that you simply do something creative. Use your imagination to make the world a better place in any way that you can. If you know Monty like we do, then you know he would certainly be doing that if he were able to.

      Monty was 33 years old.

      We love you, Monty.

    • Rooster Teeth teams up with Fullscreen

      matt

During the last three years Rooster Teeth has grown at a crazy pace. We've been releasing more videos than at any time in our history. In fact, on a per minute count, we now regularly put out more content every week than we used to in an entire year! Of course quantity is not the most important metric, and of all our accomplishments I'm most proud of the fact that we strive to improve the quality of all our shows every single day.

All of this growth has been amazing and exhilarating, but it's also made us realize we need more support if we are going to take our company and our community even further. Burnie and I have been searching for a partner that could help Rooster Teeth to develop and grow, while allowing us to remain true to our core ideals and principles.

Today, I'm extraordinarily happy to tell you that we have found that partner, and we can announce that Rooster Teeth will now be a part of the Fullscreen family.

We've known the amazing team at Fullscreen for several years, and we are confident that they have the vision and integrity to empower & enable us take Rooster Teeth to greater heights than we ever could have achieved solely on our own. This is a company that is paving the way for the future of media and entertainment, and it's a future that we want to play a huge role in. Together our possibilities are endless.

We look forward to creating more fantastic content each and every day at Rooster Teeth, and working with Fullscreen will make that goal a whole lot easier. Thank you, the RT community, for your incredible enthusiasm and support these last 12 years. We hope you'll love every minute of our next exciting chapter.

    • Lazer Team - Week #2

      matt

I just stopped by the Extra Life live stream. If you haven't watched yet or donated go do it now - for the kids!

So week 2 of Lazer Team production is over but it already feels like we are on week 20. Every day has been exhilarating and exhausting and full of surprises.
We started the week at a local prison - yes, a working prison - but probably not filming it in the way you might imagine. That day my older son Webb got to be in the movie and even did a stunt! He had on a full harness and a cable. I was proud but also very anxious. Thankfully our stunt coordinator Jeff was terrific and made Webb feel comfortable and safe. He was really pumped. My two favorite quotes of the day were Webb yelling "Everyone, Webb is on set!' and "Let's do this!'
The next day we shot at a crossfit gym and knocked out 4 scenes that all looked completely different. During a fight scene I learned that @alanritchson is even more of a bad ass than you probably imagined. A stunt guy kicked him in the head and Alan barely felt it, but it hurt the stunt guy's foot. TRUE STORY.
The rest of the week we shot at the National Guard Armory near Stage 5. We had a long dialog scene that the cast really brought to life with a bunch of hilarious ad libs. I probably ruined a few takes for audio by laughing off screen. The set itself was really cool too. Our art department made it from scratch and it had movable walls so we could do a few trick shots. Fun stuff.
We ended the week with a big action scene that had wire rigs and explosions and all kinds of cool special fx. I didn't realize how much soot and smoke and crud we were producing until I woke up the next morning. My head was all stuffy so I blew my nose, and a bunch of gunky black stuff came out. Really gross. And really awesome. Making movies the down and dirty Rooster Teeth way.

      Until next week,
      Matt

    • Lazer Team - Week #1

      matt

      Hey gang -
Been a busy and amazing first week on Lazer Team production! We've shot at 3 locations already and got some fantastic footage. Our very first shot was a complex moving camera setup with VFX elements that featured Alan Ritchson, our "Adam," running right past the camera. I wanted him to run fast, but had to keep telling him to slow down because he's so quick we couldn't catch him on camera! Later @Jon showed me some photos he took and in every single one ALAN'S FEET WERE NOT TOUCHING THE GROUND. Yes, he is a real life super hero, I guess we did well on casting.
One night we shot at the National Guard Armory across the road from our studios complex. Art department did an amazing job on it. It looked like a million bucks and our director of photography and gaffer did a kick ass job lighting a huge set with tons of extras. Had a little time to visit with some our Indiegogo EPs on set too which was fun.
Our only hiccup so far was shooting at this amazing set we had for a command center at my alma mater, UT. It was overnight, and during lunch (at 3am) they took this giant monitor system we were using offline, and then couldn't get it to reboot! Luckily we found some workarounds and everything was great, but I was mildly panicked for an hour or so. Thankfully our AD kept us on track and all our actors, including some RT folks, did a great job.
To end the week, we did a small table read with the core cast at Stage 5. It was the first time everyone has read together and man - what an ensemble! Allie, our "Mindy," is so charming, and Colton and @Michael threw in a ton of ad libs and were cracking everybody up. It was a great night.
Getting ready for a week of 14 hour days, and couldn't be more excited. We have some bad ass stunts and special fx planned for tomorrow. Can't wait to shoot it.
I will try to update once a week if not too exhausted. Thanks everyone for your continued support on backerkit, every little bit really helps. Also - if you haven't seen @Barbara 's posts about needing extras, please check that out for your chance to be in the movie. We can use you!
Lastly, I haven't yet had a chance to say thank you to everyone who posted their own ALS Ice Bucket challenge video after we put ours out. My dad thought it was amazing and our family is really thankful to you all.

      Best,
      Matt

    • Our ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video

      matt

      Hey Everyone -
We just took the ice bucket challenge to help raise awareness and money to fight ALS! Watch the video here. (It's awesome and has some super cool slow mo!) We are proud of all the charity work we do at Rooster Teeth, but I wanted to take a moment to tell you about how this particular cause affects me personally.

About a year ago, my dad was diagnosed with ALS. Before that I didn't know much about it, only that it's generally known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease" and that it's very serious.

Since then, I've learned that it is an extremely debilitating and ultimately fatal condition, and that there is no known cure and basically no effective treatment. It not only affects the person suffering, but in many ways the entire family. In our case, my dad and stepmom are currently in the process of moving, because he is no longer able to safely move about in the home that they've lived in for many years.

Thankfully, my dad is pretty tough, and with a little help from the VA, our family has the resources to cope with most of the changes that ALS has forced up on us. But there are a lot of families that aren't as lucky as ours, and - more to the point - ALS is a disease that no one should ever have to endure.

So thank you for watching and sharing our video. We hope it inspires you to take the ice bucket challenge yourself, or to make a donation to find a cure for ALS. We're nominating our friends the Barenaked Ladies, the Rock, and of course the Rooster Teeth Community to take up the challenge next. We know you guys will do us proud. You always do.

My own family, and my Rooster Teeth family, sincerely appreciate your support.

      Best,
      Matt

    • Lazer Team Casting at RTX!

      matt

One of the most frequent questions we've received since starting our Lazer Team Indiegogo campaign is, "Are you going to have a casting call?" The answer is yes, at RTX! On Sunday, July 6 at 4pm CT we will be holding the Lazer Team casting call in Room 18 of the convention center for all RTX attendees. A professional casting company will be running the auditions. We are looking to fill some minor speaking roles that are open to all ages, races and genders. You do not need to bring anything with you and no experience is required. Please be aware that all auditions will be recorded and you will need to sign a release to participate. We're excited about finding a new star or two from our community, hope to see you there!

If you'd like to help make Lazer Team an even better movie please visit our Indiegogo page to make a contribution. There is less than one week left in our campaign, so don't wait! We'll have lots more Lazer Team news this week, and our Reddit AMA on July 3 at 12pm CT.

For more information and updates to the RTX schedule, make sure to download the RTX app for iOS and Android.

We have an awesome cast, we have a bad ass crew, we have a great script and we have some amazing locations. This is happening. I know a lot of you have been waiting for news on this project, and I'm happy to tell you we start production this week.

But, Day 5 isn't the only new project we're working on. Lots more big news coming this week. BIG. Stay tuned...

      matt

Our newest RT Short was just released, watch it here. If you've already seen it, then you know it stars the most handsome man in all of Rooster Teeth to ever speak German and Spanish simultaneously, and also Chris.
What you probably don't know is that it was directed by our friend Joe Nicolosi, who previously directed Burnie in the hilarious Kittywood Studios video. It was weird being directed by someone who works so much with cats. He would never give us screen direction, instead choosing to simply aim at the floor with a laser pointer until we would pounce on the little red dot. He also made Chris go in the litter box instead of the bathroom. Not sure why that was necessary but he said something about "method acting." Chris didn't seem to mind.
Writing credit goes to the good @RevDrMarquis, whom you might recognize in the video as the worst dancer in all of history. He's the one that gave me the line about "hating your generation," because apparently he thinks I am the same age as his grandfather. I'm not, but I am dating his grandmother. We met on Tinder.
Hope you enjoy it as much as a Warm Sack. Patent Pending.

Hey Matt, I am a fan of Rooster Teeth and all of its many branches of entertainment. Also, getting a hell of a lot of hype for Lazer Team. Anyway, I was gonna ask you about something related to RvB. I know you aren't doing the writing for the show anymore, but you are still playing a major role in the series. The question I wanted to ask waned to ask you, as well as Bernie and Miles, is that if it was okay for my friends and I to make an RvB spinoff machinima series of our own. It would be set in the same plane of existence as the characters in RvB, but it woulod be a completely seperate set of characters and story line and pretty much everything.

I just found this article and the scientific paper that it's associated with and it reminded me of the premise or Lazer Team. The connection being that DNA markers are present in the suit pieces and activate and change to match the DNA of the wearer. Sounds like it's becoming a more legitimate story. @burnie

Hello Mr Hullum. I have been working several years in various aspects of video production and post production, from production assistant, editor, DIT, grip, etc. I don't know if this is the right way to contact about this inquiry, but I am wondering if your company would need any help on sets as I can help out as a production assistant, editor, DIT, colorist, swing grip, etc, in any way I can.

I shoot weddings a lot and have worked as a freelance stage manager/production assistant at a studio called InMotion Imagery here in Dallas that has three large sound stages with cycloramas and I primarily helped out with live satellite shots that air on CNN, MSNBC, ESPN, etc. I have also been a PA on this past season of American Ninja Warrior on NBC and a day player PA on BET's Meet the Manns.

I'm always looking to help on sets and get more experience in post production as well, as I am trying to get into color grading with Resolve.

      Thank you for your time.

I saw the picture of you on your first day of directing Lazer Team and your winning smile made my day. I just wanted to take this time to say just how proud all of us in the community are of you and of the cause to say we are all behind you, cheering you on. I cannot wait to see how this movie finishes up, most awaited movie of 2015 (even despite Avengers 2 among everything else). I know it'll go great and you'll go on to do even greater things. Just always remember when you're stressed or having a bad day that you've got a whole community rallying behind you, and at this point you could never disappoint us (even if you fueled all your effort into it), never forget that. We love all you guys at RT no matter what and we're in this with you to the end. Keep up the amazing work, you guys are my heroes

Not sure about the name or where it is, but I want me some dead animals, and the way you guys talk about it make it seem like the best dead animal serving establishment there is. So can I get the deets on the place, or are you gonna be like "Look at this fool" and not leave me something. A url, an address, whatever. Thanks if you do, you're busy and I understand if you don't. I'm seriously sending this to everyone, by the way. Hoping for at least one reply from someone somewhere.

      Hello,

I'm a senior journalism and mass communication student at Samford University in Alabama and a regular RT/AH viewer. I'm working on creating a proposal for my senior thesis, and I thought it would be really interesting to do a case study on Rooster Teeth, especially with the recent Lazer Team funding.
My thesis advisor suggested I try a different topic because I'd have difficulty getting access to you and company details, but I figured it couldn't hurt to reach out to you. I wouldn't need any very sensitive information, just some details about RT's history, growth, failed and successful projects, reasons behind some of the bigger company decisions.
I know it's a big thing to ask, but if you would be willing at all, please just respond "Yes" by Friday, Sept. 5. If not, thanks for reading and keep doing what you do. I'm also going to send this request to a couple other RT people, just to cover my bases.

      Thanks,

Hi, I don't know if you have got the Nintendo 64 Burnie got for you working but I work at a store that deals with retro games and I might be able to help. If you want to bring it in we can troubleshoot it an get it working for you.

Quick advise so you don't have to come in, get a Q-tip dip it in Windex, clean the contacts on the game, and then dry it with another Q-tip. If that doesn't work then clean the contact again but don't dry it, put it into the system while its lightly moist and pull it and out several times then clean the contacts again.

That doesn't work it might be a faulty piece, if you bring it in we can figure it out for you. Store name is Gamefellas The nearest one to your office I believe is the store in Highland mall, it is downstairs below the escalators. We have 4 stores though so we probably have one near you in Austin.

I'd like to make a recommendation, I have a kindle fire hd that I use extensively, now flash player is not available on the device, so when I want to watch videos, I have to get out my laptop, or boot up my desktop. Now, amazon has an experimental player they use on their devices, but you have to be signed up with them for it to air( which works well) your videos. I don't know the parameters amazon requires, but could Rooster Teeth / Achievement Hunter investigate being included? I know I, and many other viewers would enjoy watching your programing more easily on our devices, rather then using our computers, or waiting a week to watch it on you tube which works well. Thank you.
