This Friday's gif is one of Sirca's shrine maidens. Her name is Lily, and I hope @Kaoru27Umi doesn't mind that I abducted her chupababy and indoctrinated her into a life of servitude.

      pw-shrinemaid.gif

These maidens tend to the grounds around the many mysterious, ancient structures dotting the ring-world, provide shelter to travelers and soldiers, and facilitate worship and prayer to the chupas' ancestors (many shrines double as burial grounds.)

There's some debate between scholars and theologians over who built the shrines: Omegite texts say Lord Omega raised them from the earth as monuments to the fallen Predecessors, while some archaeologists wonder if they've been around even longer than chupa-kind.

Shrine maidens have interesting standing on Sirca, politically-speaking. Although they're not Omegites, they are considered clergy for taxation purposes, and the spiritual nature of their service is one of the only kinds tolerated under the House of Omega.

      It's Friday, but I don't have a gif today--I've got a video!

      https://youtu.be/ySXItmosKH8

(I'm still not sure how to embed shit)

I'm pretty happy to have that project completed. It's my last "Red vs Blue feat. Chupathingys" video, and a helluva note to end on. Four minutes of animation is the most I've ever done for a project (and it took over two months and a lot of experimenting with render settings) but it came out a'right, and for my next project I'm looking forward to making even longer, cooler, better stuff.

Cheers to @OroborosNZ for his help with rendering as well as some good suggestions.

And another cheers to my crew on Patreon! I've been enjoying the social features of that platform a lot, especially the ability to follow and comment on creators even if I don't support them. I've discovered a lot of cool artists that way.

I've made the WIP posts on my account public, so if y'all want to see the progress on that video, everyone's free to look. I'll also be posting progress on my next project there, so follow me if you like!

Welp, back to work on comics.

    • That 2016 Recap Journal All The Kids Do

      Myshu chupariffic

I won't take a lot of you guys' time here, so, ah... let's see. I should think back on stuff that happened to me in the past revolution of the earth ('sup, science.)

I posted a video that got over 100,000 views on YouTube. I'm STILL not sure how/why I made that animation, but it attracted the full force of the Undertale fandom, and lemme tell ya: those kids are a little nuts (I got a comment on the video that was, plainly and without context, "potato.") At any rate, that was a fun achievement and I learned some cool stuff.

I jumped into FurAffinity and boy howdy, that exceeded my (very, very, veeeeeery low) expectations. But hell, screw the stereotypes--even if turning off the SFW filter makes the front page of FA look like a goddamn kaleidoscope of hairy diaper sex dungeons and people crawling out of Charizard's anus, furries are actually super-nice and welcoming. The chupa comic racked up 250 watchers in no time, and I made some cool friends (a few of them very talented artists!)

Speaking of furries burning in hell, I submitted an animatic to the LetsPlay Community animation contest. Didn't place, but raccoon!Jeremy is now my headcanon and you can't stop me.

I started a Patreon! I'm very happy with the response it's received so far, and I'll always appreciate my patrons, seriously. While it's not enough to quit my day job, that kind of support helps in ways that can't be counted.

It's cool, too, to take some steps towards being financially independent. Even if Patreon in particular isn't the answer to that, I'm still working towards improving my quality of life (and my artwork!)

Also cool that I can make extra income without resorting to drawing furry porn on FA 24/7. Y'know, just throwing that out there.

Speaking of Patreon, some of y'all know I love it as a platform for supporting artists. I don't have a lot of cash to throw around, but I try to chip in a buck or two to some'a these very rad people (innnnnnnnncoming plugs):

      - GeekyFriedRice : You guys know @kriss , eh? Sweet, funny, uplifting personality, geeky as hell? Makes hilarious gaming streams and highlight reels!

      - LoZelda : Much like Kriss, @LoZelda is a gat damn pillar of our community, and hosts awesome streams, to boot.

      - nerdgasmz : Come for @nerdgasmz 's funny-as-balls RWBY comics, and stay for the shiny drawings and promising animation. Gotta love it.

      - WAmirul : @wamirul is a gat damn hidden gem of an illustrator, animator and concept artist who lives right here in our community.

      - Rogzilla : Have you SEEN what this glorious motherfuck @Rogzilla can draw? The man is a damn pro.

      - Luke McKay : Does this need an introduction? @lukemckay is on Patreon! Making comics! Holy shit.

      - Dylon : A wild @Dylon appears. Try to watch "HOW TO BEAT SUPER MARIO BROS IN 200 EASY STEPS" and not fuckin' die of laughter.

Phew, that went longer than I expected. But hey, are you a gentle community member with a Patreon? Tell me 'bout it!

    • Oh Man a Journal

      Myshu chupariffic

A long while back I made a journal or comment somewhere (maybe here?) stating that I don't like to make journal posts without content (artwork, etc) to share. Still true for me, I think. I don't make journals like this very often! On some level I guess I consider it unproductive--but that's not meant to be a slam on other types of journals, because I do read up on my friends here and enjoy seeing y'all's thoughts and day-to-day stuff. Maybe I don't consider my daily grind similarly interesting? Or maybe I'm more focused on branding myself around my work? Huh.

Anyway! One platform I've really loosened up on is Twitter. There's something about the tweeting format (including its limitations) that encourages random bursts of thought, and I'm cool with that--got real comfortable with it, yo. I was even about to condense this rambling post into 140 characters, god help me, but then I remembered that I had done the very odd thing of cold-quitting Twitter this month.

...er, not permanently! Actually, my idea is to lay off the socializing until I finish my next video project. Kind of a motivation/productivity thing. Doesn't hurt to be spending more time with online tutorials/training, either (much of it in Blender! This guy's channel is the best, by the way.)

My next video'll continue my "Red vs Blue feat. Chupathingys" series. I've finished updating the topology, rigs and shape keys on the five models I need, and cut together the audio for the clip. The run-time right now is a very scary 4:35 (for reference, my longest video so far is 2:31.) But it's a good kind of scary. I look forward to the challenge, and for 2017 I want to make more long-form animations. It benefits my comic in the long-run too, because models that are "animation-ready" are extra-easy to throw into panels, and mean less time spent painting on them. Efficiency!

Ah, what else is new...? I live with 2.5 cats now. One of the buggers is supposed to stay outside because he's not fixed, but here's a picture of the big orange bastard sneaking into a secret cat-nap session:

      cats121516.JPG

Speaking of sexy sessions, @Ember and I will be in Houston this Saturday, watching Game Grumps Live. I'm stoked! Not often that I get to refer to Houston in conversation without wishing the whole town scoured from the Earth for its awful traffic and ugly infrastructure.

So yeah, that's the haps over here. This journal was brought to you by Twitter abstinence.

      (Love y'all)

Hey chupamigos, thanks for your input on my last journal. I made updates to the adoption list accordingly (as well as posted a backlog of new chupababies. Oops!)

Guess what else I did today? I drew stickers!

      cb-stickers1.jpg

      Cute lil' nerds, right?

If anyone wants to buy these stickers, they're available right here!

My roommate @Ember is hosting them for me on her Redbubble account.

Why her account, instead of making one of my own? Well,

      1. I lazy

      2. I could collect rent/extort monies from Ember whenever I want (I do know where she lives...)

      3. These sales are going towards her Australian visa. Ember's been living with me for a couple of years, and even though she's working two jobs right now, she's still a long way from saving up enough to move in with her fiancé--did I mention he's in freaking AUSTRALIA? And we're in Texas. Anybody who's had to immigrate to a new country for their spouse knows how much of a huge, expensive pain-in-the-ass it is, even on a marriage visa.

So tl;dr, it'll help us both! And you'll get a cute sticker out of the deal, right?

By the way, let me know if y'all like these and/or want to see more, or perhaps something different (like a chupa-shirt?) I could design shiz like this all day, I swear.

    • Chupababies and the RT Website

      Myshu chupariffic

Hi guys, I was approached with a little quandary and wanted to bounce it off you guys, the RT community, since here's where shiz got started.

(And I gotta make this quick, since I need to hurry to work)

Recently I started uploading chupa comics to my FurAffinity account (yeah, shut up, I know...) and chupathingys caught the attention of quite a few fine furries. A couple of 'em even dug around and noticed the chupababies that I'd been giving out over here on-and-off for the past four years.

I directed those people to THIS THREAD, which is where those who've never adopted from me before can get their first chupababy (it's always open, and free!)

Historically, chupababies have been a treat for the Rooster Teeth community. Members here could post baby chupas to their profiles, or give them as gifts to non-members, but the RT membership has always been a factor and huge part of the process. We even have a long roster of 'parents' who've adopted from me (and other kind artists!) The whole list is still here.

Here's the rub, though: it's been some years. The RT site has changed a lot. The community here is... ah, to say it's in a state of disrepair would be the polite way to word it, I guess. The fact of it is that these people coming to me from FA/Twitter/Tumblr want to take advantage of the draw-one/get-one-free chupababies, but don't want to make RT accounts, even though they're free.

I was actually talking to one person today who couldn't figure out how to make an account here and kept getting errors when he tried. Suddenly my request for someone to simply have a Rooster Teeth account to get a free chupa is a cumbersome demand, and I kinda want to blame the website, but that isn't entirely fair, either--it's just the state of things, these days.

So, what do you guys think I should do for these non-RT requests?

Yeah, I don't know if you saw a few old Sims 2 videos I've made, but I'm also doing a bit of sims 2 footage for Oroboros's Halo 3 machinima project (sort of the equivalent of what Monty did with CGI for the season nine trailer... but nowhere near as awesome). It's been a lot more work and taken WAY longer than I thought it would, so I'm glad it's only for one episode.

I d'know, your comics are a lot better than anything I've done, and still pretty good compared to many I've seen elsewhere, certainly I can see the work you put into them. I've been reading some of the ones from Deviant Art and through all the white chimera ones, all look darn good to me smiley0.gif

      I guess it's a good thing I don't believe in hell.

I have a few favourite fonts: I never use Ariel, always Tahoma, I tend to use Post Human or Marker Man rather than comic sans although I do use it now and then, and I'm always looking for better fonts to use for things like hand-writing. Bank Gothic is a favourite for anything semi-futuristic or very professional looking, and impact for anything that needs, well, impact, but I still tend to replace all the capital "i"s with Tahoma just because sans-serif capital "i"s annoy me.

Ah, portraits can be fun sometimes but other times not -- especially if they're a difficult subject to draw, and on a large scale is always worse. At least you got it done.

So not super-fun but nice to get away then, yeah? Where did you go?

Day job? Well I'm really more freelance so work comes and goes -- right now I'm doing some VAT stuff for my Dad, who doesn't have time to do it, I've got some plans work coming up soon too. I've been thinking of signing up to some "pet" sites since I hear you can set up a store and sell "adoptables" and stuff, a friend from D.A. suggested it. I don't really have time for commissions at the moment but considering that too.

      How about you?

Yeah, I'm on skype most days, most of my closer online friends use it, only one or two use MSN or similar, and I also use it to talk to the people involved in this machinima thing I'm sort of involved with. If you feel like using it again give me a PM and I'll give you my I.D.

      Exactly.

Well... kind of. Right now I'm sorting out my Dad's VAT receipts, but I also do building-site labour when there's call for it (haven't been on site in a while though) and other freelance type stuff usually involving manual labour of some kind -- like digging holes, or clearing away rubble, or knocking render off of walls, or mixing cement, that kind of thing, whatever work I can get, but nothing steady. I'm working on a portfolio to send off to try to get an actual full-time job doing something creative though.
