What's the hardest chupa movement to animate

      Answered: Jul 1, 2017

It's both simple and hard, but: walk cycles. And that applies to any character model. The way someone walks is very revealing of their character, so you have to put some thought into it: pace, posture, how the arms swing, the length of the stride, the width of the stride, etc. It also involves moving most key bones of the body at once, so there's coordinating that, too - and for animating in a 3D environment, there's always the trick of how to get a character to walk convincingly along a path.

      This GiFriday's a special one!

Last year I collaborated with @synnesai and a good fella named Sam Newmark to make this video:

Synne was our illustrator, storyboarder and concept artist, Sam did the sounds and music, and I modeled and animated the rest.

You can check out Synnesai's badass art pieces (character designs, sets, fake screenshots, etc) for this on her blog right here.

It was a really fun gig, and I was happy to be a part of the team! I should probably also mention that we're not following up on this. It was just a happy one-shot idea, haha.

Something I did to prep for this project was create test gifs for each character. This week we'll start with Blue Team!

My comic release schedule's been revised a tiny bit:

My patrons get comics first, four days after you guys get to see it (<3 y'all), and three days after that it's released to the rest of the web and the website.

The buttersnake, by the way, uses that decoration on its tail to lure in birds for it to eat. Hmm, I really should cook up a bestiary for all these critters...

Shrine maidens come from all kinds of families, yet during a holy war the majority of them are orphans, their parents slain in battle. Maidens are valued as mediums and credited with the power to banish evil and grant good luck to visitors of their shrine. A maiden is bound to her shrine by a vow of chastity that makes them “spiritually pure” enough to communicate with spirits that haunt the grounds.  The vow also provides for the only way to officially leave the Maiden Sisterhood: once a maiden finds a mate, they are dismissed from their shrine. This is generally considered more lenient than Omegite sects, where clergy are bound to serve for life, and desertion is punished by death.

How's everyone been? I've been juggling this update and a new animation project. It's tough! I gotta wake up early in the morning for this shit (today it was 6:45, and not even early enough.) Having a blast, though--will always love mah chupas.

Yeah, I wish that I had the time to draw it better, but it literally took about an hour per panel to make, so if I put any more effort into it, it would have completely taken over my life... or I would have given up on it.

Actually, I just took a look then, and it seems the Deconstruction links are up and running again.

    • darthwader FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Deconstruction is a little more difficult, because the chapters are huge (often around 30 panels) so it's hard to find an image sharing site that doesn't shrink the image down.

Aww, but I was trying to give Tucker some hawtness -- I gave him pecs.

Well... dragonair could push them with her tail or something... or her... equivalent of a shoulder?

I don't think she's as bad as Tex, I think Tucker was just being... very Tucker I think this is pretty much how every girl would react to Tucker, unless they were a female version of Tucker like Kaikaina Grif.

The only change to the site that bugs me is the one that makes it freeze for five minutes at a time when I use any browser except for Chrome, oh, and the one that makes posts glitch and post three times when looking like it hasn't posted at all -- they should fix those, it didn't do that before the "Delta" version of the site was released. The change to the mod system was a big deal, but meh, it means no one can mod-spam stuff anymore with -100 lame, so fair enough really.

I was pitted to the post, as it were, a few times lately with little things. It's just one of them was something I was going to incorporate into a drawing as a little joke and now it's already out there and will look like I stole the idea. Not really a big deal.

      You're welcome smiley1.gif

There's a bridge in Austin with lots of bats under it, go see it at sunset if you get the chance.

Funnily enough I use y'all sometimes... and I guess it's as much a real word as "don't" or "you're", so fair enough. I like the sound of it anyway. Y'all smiley0.gif sounds quite good in a Northern English accent too...
Also, I love that your English teacher told you the correct way to spell it.

    • DocRossim

Yeah, I've heard that too, something to do with it being 7000 years since Noah's flood. Oh well, fires of hell for me then, at least it's warm and there's rock music. Don't forget to stock up on spray-paint on the 20th.

Reading is a definite possibility, I was wondering what kind of books though -- probably not fantasy novels since the dragon is usually the bad guy, maybe books about ancient Chinese legends, apart from that I'm not really sure. Any thoughts?

Luckily, although her hands are large, she has very good eyesight, so no need for large print versions.

    • DocRossim

Indeed smiley4.gif very nearly beats my favourite quote from "The Whole Nine Yards".

Well it was the largest piece of fabric she could get smiley8.gif She does have some other stuff she's made (revealed later) but for basic out-and-about clothing she goes with the low-maintenance bedsheet dress mainly. There's an ensemble made from pillowcases too.

      Yeah, sorry about the crossed lines earlier ^_^;

    • DocRossim

Oops, posted that last comment about the dragon with the cupcake on its head on the wrong profile, sorry about that. For context, I was discussing this picture, which someone drew for Griffon Ramsey's birthday, with FoxBoyPrower.

I'm not a fan of mayonnaise anyway [link] smiley4.gif

and thanks for the feedback on my latest Helen pic smiley1.gif I had fun with it.
The dress, incidentally, is made form a bedsheet, sewn at the back under where the wings and tail protrude and tied at the neck.

Well that's climate change for you. They had a crazy winter this year, what with all then it rained for about three months straight right after. Come to the south coast instead, lovely and sunny here... well, most days, in the summer.

      Heheh, fair enough.

    • DocRossim

Thankyou smiley1.gif Yeah, I know, looking back I feel I could do a lot better now. I'm planning to re-draw them some time, also make their legs more animalesque. What's the proper term? Something-agrade...

Oh, I see. Heheheh, it's funny because I used to think Tex might be Scottish -- 'cause she's got red hair and in the Song Nico calls her Beth, which could be some reference to MacBeth... although she's be, like, a Scots-Jewish Texan then... Anyway, so you go to Scotland every so often then?

You should take a clipboard, you could do some sketches while you're sittin' there. Ooh, and then you could sketch suspicious looking people, and make characters out of them, maybe that might even lead into a job as a police sketch-artist one day.

    • DocRossim

Hypochondriac Raccoon: She probably got the idea because they wash their food or something like that, I'm not sure, she thinks of a lot of characters when she has a fever smiley4.gif and thanks smiley1.gif it's been a while since I've done anything purely hand-drawn, especially fur. Well you are awesome.

Yeah, I'm just looking at lots of "options" as it were when it comes to those pet site things. Also I need more variety for my portfolio so it'll be something for that too if I do.
