"rap isnt music" okay rappers can freestyle, that means, rhyme on the top of their heads. Can rock bands do that?
Hip hop was created first as just music. A dj just mixed a few things. Later on, a rapper, or MC, would yell out a few lines to add to it.
Then lines became more sophisticated.
What you think about rap, as bad, is a stereotyped lie. The following are BAD rappers: 50 Cent, G-Unit, K Fed, Lil Jon, Ying Yang Twins, Bow Wow, Chingy, Nelly, Yung Joc, Cam'Ron, Juelz Santana, Jim Jones, All of Dipset, Fabolous, Paul Wall, Eminem is overhyped, D4l, and like 97% of the other rap you hear on the radio is garbage.
EDIT: 97% of radio rap is NOT 97% of all rap. Stop being stupid and using that number that I made up against me, it makes you guys look even more stupid and close-minded.
See, idiots only see that part. There's another side to rap. Underground rap, conscious rap, and even some gangsta rappers are actually good.
For example: Talib Kweli, Black Star, Eternal Reflection, Kanye West, Common, Mos Def, Jedi Mind Tricks, Nas, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, and so on. I can go on and on, and I will if someone asks.
Any 1 of those have an insane amount of talent. Yeah, you never heard of them, but that only proves that you seriously dont know what rap is about.
Rap/Hip Hop is NOT about Sex, Girls, Cars, Shoes, "Bling", and the same bullshit.
Rap and Hip Hop is anything else.
Rap and Hip hop use any type of instrument. Even Rock music. Nas' Theif's Theme and Hip Hop Is Dead songs use rock music.
Many use orchestra, jazz, rock, and other types.
But of course, you didnt know that. You were busy thinking that rap is about getting crunk.
So stop being so idiotic about things you truly don't know about.
I bet none of you will be opened minded to te "good" rappers i mentioned because you're all stubborn babies. You'd like to think rap is one thing, when its a variety of things.
Lupe Fiasco is a good start. Almost all the music used does not sound typical to what rap is.Brooklyn New York city where they paint murals of Biggie In cash we trust cause its ghetto fabulous, life look pretty What a pity -- blunts is still fifty cents, its intense Tree scents is dominant cant be covered with incense My presence felt my name is kweli from the eternal reflection People thinking MC is short hand for mis conception Let me meditate, set it straight, came to the conclusion That most of these cats is featherweight, let me demonstrate Walking the streets is like battling, be careful with your body You must know karate or think your soul is bulletproof like sade Stop acting like a bitch already, be a visionary And maybe you can see your name in the column of obituary - Black Star, Definition
One for Charlie Hustle, two for Steady Rock Three for the fourth coming live future shock It's five dimensions, six senses Seven firmaments of heaven to hell 8 Million Stories to tell Nine planets faithfully keep in orbit with the probable tenth, the universe expands length The body of my text possess extra strength Power-lifting powerless up, out of this, towering inferno My ink so hot it burn through the journal I'm blacker than midnight on Broadway and Myrtle Hip-Hop past all your tall social hurdles like the nationwide projects, prison-industry complex Working class poor better keep your alarm set Streets too loud to ever hear freedom ring Say evacuate your sleep, it's dangerous to dream - Mos Def, Mathematics
THE "ROCK SUCKS" picture I have: I don't hate rock. I like it very much, more than rap. Rock is another form of music I consider great. People put time and effort to play instruments. Hell I try to play my guitar as much as I can, and it makes me appreciate rock. They definitely are good. My picture, is just to attract attention and to see who will waste their time telling me rap sucks.
