    • Lazer Team Mega Announcement!

Hey everyone! Lazer Team DVDs are now on sale at stores everywhere including Target, Wal-Mart, Amazon, and of course the RT Store. We also have some amazingly cool action figures and the Japanese premiere poster, and the much-requested Blu-ray discs should be in next week!

But that’s not the only big news of the day. I’m incredibly happy to tell you that Lazer Team 2 is a go! Yes, thanks to the power of this amazing community and the support of our fantastic partners at YouTube Red, we are officially making a sequel – and it’s going to be even bigger, better, and Lazer Team-ier than the first one. There is so much more we want to do with this story and these characters, and your incredible response to the movie has made it a reality even sooner than we expected.

One of my favorite experiences with the release of Lazer Team was being able to meet so many people in our community at theatrical screenings around the world. A lot of you wanted to know when there would be a sequel, and if you’d be able to support it through crowdfunding like the first one. We would love to get more feedback on how you felt the first round went and if that’s something you’d like to have the option to try this time. We want to make this the best movie it can possibly be, and as with all our content, that starts with listening to you.

Lazer Team has been one of the most rewarding creative and community experiences we’ve ever had at Rooster Teeth, and I feel honored that we get to keep it going with a sequel! There will be a lot more news in the months ahead, including more ways and places you can see the first movie. In fact, Gavin and Burnie are currently in Japan for the theatrical premiere of Lazer Team this weekend! Thanks for taking this incredible journey with us, and we hope you’ll enjoy what’s in store on the road ahead.

      Introducing Rooster Teeth FIRST

Since the dawn of Rooster Teeth’s time, back when we were still internet neanderthals living in the cave known as Burnie’s guest bedroom, Sponsorship has always been a part of our DNA. Sponsorship kept us alive in the early days of Red vs. Blue, allowed us to grow and experiment with different types of shows, and ultimately helped us become the upright, language and tool-using, awesome entertainment company that we are today. And as Rooster Teeth has evolved from the primordial ooze of early online video, so has Sponsorship, which has grown into a full-fledged subscription video service. Now, the time has come to create a distinct identity for that subscription platform, and that identity is Rooster Teeth FIRST.

FIRST is Rooster Teeth Sponsorship… with a new name, more choice, and more awesome. Slightly less primordial ooze.

Right off the bat, I want to make it clear that if you’re a Rooster Teeth Sponsor, very little is changing for you, and you don’t have to take any action. As a FIRST member, you will still have all of your access and great benefits: watch exclusive shows, see everything first, no ads, get that 5% discount in the store, etc. We’re making a small price update to the six-month membership option (from $15.99 to $19.99, which breaks down to about $.67 more per month), but existing Sponsors are grandfathered in at their current price point unless they make changes to their membership.

As we make this change, we’re taking the opportunity to introduce even more benefits and subscription options. We’re going to keep adding more value to FIRST memberships, like the addition of exclusive shows like Day 5 and Crunch Time, new documentaries, and more exclusive content from many of your favorite shows like RWBY and Camp Camp. We’re even adding an amazing new tier for our most demanding members called Double Gold.

FIRST Double Gold membership includes all of the perks included in the standard FIRST membership, but Double Gold members will also receive a box of exclusive Rooster Teeth merchandise valued at $60+ in the mail each month. To top it off, there are additional perks like a 10% store discount, exclusive contests and giveaways, and starting with events that go on sale after August 1st, you’ll have early access to purchase VIP tickets.

If you’re coming to RTX this year, you’ll get a chance to sign up for Double Gold on-site at booth #837, and walk away with the very first RT Box, which you can only get at this year’s show. The next box will be mailed out on August 15 to all Double Gold members who sign up by the end of July.

You probably have some questions. Let’s start with the basics.

      Why “FIRST”?

FIRST speaks to the history and culture of both Rooster Teeth and the internet itself. Being first has always been important to this community – first with an innovative idea or product, first in a comments section, first to see the next great video that you know your friends will love, first to see a miniature Gus with his shirt off in a jar of mayonnaise, and so forth. Even the shirts from our very first RTX had “FIRST!” on the back.

The core benefit of Sponsorship was getting to see everything first, and we want to extend that benefit into other areas that increase the value of being a subscriber.

      When is the change happening?

Sponsorships will officially switch over to Rooster Teeth FIRST on July 1, 2016, the first day of RTX. For you Sponsors coming to RTX, look out for a booth near registration where you can get a special FIRST sticker for your badge. It’ll not only make you more attractive, but will also allow you to get into the FIRST member-only “Ask the CEO” panel on Friday at 5pm in meeting room 9.

      What does it cost?

The standard FIRST membership is $4.99 a month, or $19.99 every six months. As with Sponsorships, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial to see what it’s all about.

FIRST Double Gold memberships are $34.99 a month, or $179.99 every six months. You’re probably thinking, “DAAAMN!” but remember that this gets you $60+ in exclusive merch every month, in addition to the benefits of the standard FIRST membership – and more.

If you are an existing Sponsor before the switchover on 7/1, you are grandfathered into your current rate unless you make a change to your FIRST membership.

And as always, you can sign up for a free account to get a customizable profile, participate in community discussions, and set schedule reminders for shows.

What will FIRST members be called?

We’ll let you all figure that out for yourselves, but some people have grown fond of referring to FIRST members as “FIRSTies.” Some people named Barbara.

These questions and more are addressed in the all-new FIRST FAQ. Check it out.

Any other questions? I’m only a comment away. (And I’m really curious what the first comment is going to be…)

Thank you for helping us make Rooster Teeth what it is today. We’ve come a long way together, and with your support there’s no limit to what we can do next.

Do you have any social networks like Instagram/Twitter? I've seen many, many accounts for each, and I'm not sure which are fake or not. Thanks,

      I'm mostly just on twitter:

    • RT on VRV

You might have heard the news from E3 where Burnie helped announce VRV, a very cool new way to view Rooster Teeth content, which is coming out later this year, and launching first in the US. I wanted to take a minute to tell you why we decided to partner with them, and why this is such great news for all of us.

First and foremost, this will give everyone, especially Sponsors, a way to view all of the Rooster Teeth content you can currently access on our website and mobile apps on practically any platform – including game consoles. If you’re already a Rooster Teeth Sponsor, you will not have to pay anything additional to access Sponsor content this way. It’s simply a new added benefit for you. You can log into Rooster Teeth on VRV using your existing Rooster Teeth username and password. Also, if you’re not a Sponsor yet, you can sign up for Rooster Teeth on VRV, and your new login information will then work directly on and our Rooster Teeth apps. You will also be able to take advantage of the other Sponsor benefits on our website and store, such as access to livestreams and the 5% store discount. The logins are completely cross-compatible! Now you’ll be able to access your favorite shows from all of RT on almost any device you can think of, and you get to keep all the other benefits of being a Sponsor.

Another reason we’re excited about VRV is because it gives us all a chance to discover more content from creators we all know and love, like Crunchyroll, Nerdist, and Geek & Sundry.

Last but certainly not least, being on VRV will allow our tech and engineering team more time to focus on improving the community experience on and our own apps, while still providing access to our content in all these other places where we all want to watch it. The ideal situation to me is you get to easily watch RT content like Day 5 on your TV through VRV, while you’re talking about it with the community on

So basically, just think of VRV as a portal through which you will be able to access the video portion of our website on almost any platform. I’m sure there will be questions, and I will try to answer them in the comments below, but here are a few answers just to get things started:

Q: Is VRV only for Rooster Teeth Sponsors?

No, it’s available to everyone, including Sponsors. If you are a Sponsor, you get all the same video access on Rooster Teeth through VRV as you would directly through our website. If you are a regular user or public visitor, the content will be ad-supported on VRV just as it is on, and you won’t have access to the Sponsor exclusives, but you will have the option to change that by becoming a Sponsor through VRV or

Q: Will you still put your content on YouTube?

Yes, we will still put all of our non-Sponsor exclusive content on YouTube just as we always have. We don’t have any plans to change the release schedule, other than we will continue to make more new shows and increase the amount of content we produce overall, including free/ad-supported and Sponsor-exclusive. There will, of course, also continue to be special cases for individual projects, like Lazer Team, that work best being released in some entirely different way. Those projects will most likely be more movies.

Q: Does this mean you are abandoning development on and your apps?

No, this means we will have more time to focus on improving the community features of and our apps. VRV will be a great new way to access our videos, but we are still focused on making and our apps the best way to connect with the community.

Q: This is great! But where do you prefer that we support you? Should we become a Sponsor through VRV or directly on

This is entirely up to you. We so appreciate that so many people ask us this question whenever we branch out to a new outlet or platform, but we’re doing it to give you options and make things easier, not to make you feel conflicted about how to support us! If you love the content, we hope you will become involved in the community because it’s what really makes Rooster Teeth special, but no matter what, we thank you for supporting us in whatever way works best for you. We’re making content we love and we are thankful every day that we get to share it with the world.

    • Global Login Fix and Schedule Update

      Hey yo -

Yesterday we rolled out an update that addresses one of our community’s biggest pain points: global login. With this fix, it’s now easier to watch Sponsor content on all our sites – including Rooster Teeth, Achievement Hunter, Funhaus, ScrewAttack, and The Know – without having to log in on every single site. Facebook logins actually work now, too. It's Zuckerbergarific.

This update also fixes a previous video queuing issue, which means you can now add videos from all of our sites to a single queue. Huzzah!

This is one of many steps we’re taking to improve your experience on all of the Rooster Teeth sites. Even the ones with Gus. This is a huge priority throughout the rest of the year. As always, we appreciate your feedback. Your input is what enables us to design the sites you want.

      Speaking of improvements...

      Thursdays Are Getting Awesomer

As we grow and continue adding new shows to our roster, we have to occasionally take a step back and make sure our schedule is functioning like a well-oiled machine, or at least as well as a Spanish-speaking robot with well-lubed nuts. With the Day 5 premiere coming up on Sunday, June 19 (hell yeah!), now seems like the perfect time to move some of our usual Sunday content to a new day.

Starting this week, you’ll notice some new activity at 11:00 a.m. CT on Thursdays. That spot will now be home to RT Life and the Sponsor Vlog. Episodes for each show will be posted every other week; there will be a new RT Life this Thursday, May 26 (Fridays for the public), and the next Sponsor Vlog will go up on Thursday, June 2. The schedule for those shows will repeat in that pattern from here on out.

Thanks, and as always please leave us any and all feedback. Unless you are Gus.

    • JeremyWaters asked matt a question

Hey Matt, I was wondering when might we be expecting a soundtrack for Lazer Team in the Rooster Teeth store or on iTunes? Thanks

      Answered: Mar 4, 2016

      It's on iTunes now!

    • Mairi asked matt a question

Hey Matt! Loved Lazer Team, but I was an $125 backer with the signed copy, and my DVD only had one signature on it. Is that expected? You guys also missed my name in the credits :( Too busy for me?

      Answered: Feb 3, 2016

Yes, that's how we did all the DVDs. The credits was a perk that started at $300. Hope that clears confusion. Thanks for backing!

    • ShotgunWoman asked matt a question

Will the unrated version of Lazer Team be released at some point, or at least the scenes that were edited to have the movie remain PG-13? The unrated scene in Gavin's mind was phenomenal.

      Answered: Feb 3, 2016

Probably but I don't know when yet. Thanks!

Today is the anniversary of my mom's death. She passed away when I was 12. I am 18 now and looking back I don't think I could of made it through that time without you guys.

I had the support of my family and friends, but Rooster Teeth made me laugh again. You guys made me smile. I wanted to properly thank you for that. So thank you! Every last one of you. Thank you.

I spoke to you regarding the song I wrote, "The Ballad of the Infamous 535". This is a better version than the one you were given. (I started re-recording it shortly after I sent a copy to Chelsea) It's still not as polished as some of my other recordings, but its nature as a old-style folk tune allows for such roughness until I finally have a reason to redo it.

      Hope you enjoy the music!

Hey Matt. I have a few things to say/ask.

      1. RTX was so awesome and a blast! I hope I can make it next year. (And maybe get a VIP pass or be a Guardian (Props to those people for making RTX so amazing and run smoother than I thought) and arriving in Austin at least 2 days before and leaving the day after or 2 days after RTX because I missed so much sidequest fun and I kind of wanted to discover the city more).

      2. I was wondering what will happen to the Monty Memorial now since RTX is now over. I am not sure I heard what would happen to it.

      Hi Matt!

I have a question for you about food, odd though it may be. You see I am a chef, and have noticed that since you've moved to your new location you don't have a cafe or some such to sustain you all throughout the day. I know, only normal human beings need survive on more than booze and rice crispy treats. However, I wanted to know if you had plans to create an in-house spot for chow?

Hey, my name is Jack Rivera as you can see by my user name, I know what I'm going to ask may seem like a lot but I was wondering if it would be okay to get a slowed down animation of crescent rose transforming so that I can make a hand made plastic model version of it to be put on to a 1/100 MG Deathscythe Gundam that will be on display with three other Gundams that will look like the RWBY characters with Beacon as their background?

Hey Matt. I was wondering if the RT store will ever be selling the "Official Japanese RWBY Fanbook" again, at the time it was being sold in the RT store I did not have the money to buy one and also it was sold out by the time I had some money and then it was gone from the store.

Why doesn't Doctor Emily Gray fix Lopez's voice box.

How about if Church said that to like Simons and Simons tries to tell Sarge who ignores him and then 'comes up with the idea himself'. Then what if when she did, Lopez sounded like Church, then everyone was really creeped out and Lopez says a shit load of really mean stuff to all the reds that Sarge will just blame on the Blues. Then Doc Gray turns the Spanish back on. Just think of the funny possibilities.

You may not read this but there is a girl in Rhode Island that is a huge fan of all things RT. Last year she was diagnosed with chronic Lyme Disease and has been unable to do the things a normal girl should be able to do. Tomorrow, Wednesday May 13, is her 16th birthday. She will not be able to celebrate it as she should due to her disease. Furthermore, tomorrow she will begin using IV bags that will make her feel like she has the flu. I have talked very briefly with her and she asked me to contact you to thank you (for what exact purpose I do not know), and said to ask for a temporary follow on Twitter @Lindsey_Clark11 or a friend request on this site. Her RT username is lindsey_11. What I am trying to do with this message is make her tomorrows featured user, but I don't know if I'm too late to make that deadline. I encourage you to please read the rest of her story as she said it on her Tumblr

      Hey, Matt:
I have a problem with the RT Store, but it wouldn't let me contact shop owner. I didn't know if you were the person to talk to or not, but if you aren't, would you mind letting me know who it is I should talk to. I am trying to track my order progress, but for whatever reason, it won't let me. I'm clicking the order number, but nothing happens. If you could get back to me by replying here, or sending me a message, that would be great.

Hey Matt, I received the Lazer Team update email today and the announcement of Melbourne to be the premier international city. If I may make a suggestion, the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is on between July 30th and August 16th. MIFF has a film market attached to it, assuming you will have this regions distribution through Hanabee, it might pay off to enter into the festival to attract attention of other region distributers.

Dear Matt, I don't really know if this will mean anything substantial to you, but I just discovered RWBY, just flipping thru some anime channels, and was immediately hooked, upon further investigating the genius behind this project I was left heartbroken to hear of the loss of your friend and colleague.
I am truly saddened and wish to convey my condolences for you and everyone at Rooster Teeth, as well as the family he's left behind.
I hope after some time you will find the fortitude to continue on producing such great works!

      Dear matt hullum,

hello sir my name is Taran Worrell, and I am trying to contact you because simply I want to ask you if there was any way to get any kind of position at rooster teeth. I know you must get hundreds and hundreds of messages a day pertaining to this topic and are quite sick of seeing them. When I say any kind of position I mean any thing I would be happy being the coffee boy for the whole office being payed two dollars a day and I am not exaggerating at all about the coffee boy thing. I know you probably wont care but I just want to leave El paso and put every thing here behind me. I feel like if I stay here I am just going to end up in a dead end job at some fast food place unhappy and just wanting to end it all, But if there was any way that I could work for rooster teeth then I wouldnt be happier. In short I am willing to drop every thing in my life to work for your company in any way shape or form possible at all.

      Taran Hunter Worrell.

P.S. I understand that this is a short message but i mean every thing I have said above and I truly hope that you get this. and thank you if you do. also my email is [email protected] if you do wish to reply to this message then please use that email. I had tried to message you but seeing as you are only accepting messages from friends i feel that this is the next best course of action.

Dear Crew, I've watched things that Monty has been making since I was 14. Which was a while ago, anyhow, I just want to let everyone know that I am praying for His wife and family. This is truly devastating.
There truly is nothing that can describe the pain and loss of a loved one.
I really felt like I knew Monty personally though I never met the man. I will miss him very dearly. My deepest sympathies to his family.
I'm so so sorry for your loss. Mr. Oum was a creative guru and I could see that he was an amazing friend.
      God bless.

I don't think there is much that can be said to convey the sadness and grief this loss evokes, but every word that is thoughtfully typed in this section is a testament to how much Monty will be missed.

Monty once wrote, "I believe that the human spirit is indomitable. If you endeavor to achieve, it will happen given enough resolve." An inspiring outlook that he himself embodied. He worked hard to make the world just a little bit more beautiful for everyone and we should learn from his example. We should take this tragedy to remember that we're all here to make the world a little better for everyone else.

Monty was a man to revere, admire and at times envy. His talent brought such incredible joy to those who were exposed to it. I can only lament over how I never had the opportunity to meet him, thinking that I could always do so if I bumped into him at one of the conventions we mutually attended.

HIs talent, grace and unique perspective on life can never be replaced. I'm sure I speak for everyone in the community, including intermittent attendees such as myself when I say that our hearts go out to his family and close friends.

We love you Monty and the world is better off for have known you.

      Hi Matt.

I'm so sorry that I'm late in saying this. I was too consumed by sorrow when the news hit Monday morning.

I've had nothing but respect for Monty; in his abilities, his determination, and in his creativity. He worked hard, believing in something he created. As a student of animation,I see him as an inspiration to study this field; an inspiration to create ground breaking worlds, much like he did with RWBY, though probably not of the same caliber of greatness RWBY had achieved with the fans. To hear that he passed away.... was soul shattering.

All I could think of during that dark Monday was figuring out how best to honor him. And this was the best I could do. Still... I only wish I could have done more. In spite of this, what I have learned from Monty was that the dreams we wish to achieve die if no determination, resolve, and passion is behind it. And I refuse to give up in what I wish to achieve, just as he did.

Thank you, Monty... you have lit the inspirational torches of the creative minds of this tight community, and you are immortalized in our minds.May you rest in paradise.

Monty's work is amazing, and I am very grateful that my son found him and the entire Rooster Teeth Community. You have inspired him to choose a path in animation, his biggest dream, which came in tie only with meeting all of you, especially Monty, one day.. I created an account today to express my appreciation for Monty and your crew and the inspiration you all bring to so many around the world. Your community, though almost entirely virtual, is a strong-knit one, and Monty's loss will be felt deeply.

To an amazing artist, Monty ~ you inspired many in your too few years. Trust you will not be forgotten.

Hey Matt, do you think the new RT location can be titled as the Monty office?

I feel like its the least to do considering he won't be able to see it, that and Monty's name is kinda synonymous for dedication to creativity which I feel is what Roosterteeth has always been.

      With regards, Lukin109
