So yesterday I did something that I'd been contemplating on and off for a while. Actually, I did it because Geek and Sundry got involved and that just turned the awesome notch up to 1,000. I decided to put Devils in the Valley, the novel I wrote (and edited and edited and edited), up on Inkshares as a part of Geek & Sundry's contest. (The top 3 fantasy novels from August 1-November 1 get guaranteed publishing, the G & S stamp, and marketing.) I'm nauseous with excitement/anxiety. Anximent? Exiety?
Anyway, the point is, this really got me thinking of all the stuff I have on my plate. In the next few months:
-Promotion for Queen of Pentacles, which officially releases in less than two weeks; promo involves posting poems, doing an AMA, maintaining giveaways, and some release day shenanigans.
-Booking readings/signings for Queen of Pentacles, including one in Austin for RTX 2017.
-Selling 750 copies of Devils in the Valley before the start of November (or bare minimum selling more copies than the other people in the Geek & Sundry contest, the current top sellers of which have 54/37/21 copies pre-ordered in 2ish days).
-(Speaking of which, I need to make a video for my Inkshares landing page.)
-I considered, last night, the crazy notion of doing chill weekly writing vlogs--what I wrote that week, what I edited that week, what I read and how it was, etc. But I dunno how into that people'd actually be, or if I've got the time/energy.
-Sending out my second poetry collection for publisher consideration.
-Sending out stories and poems to lit mags.
-Teacher orientation at the end of the month.
-Grad student orientation at the beginning of next month.
-Teaching starting 9/7.
-My first semester as a PhD student.
-Keeping my fibro under control as much as possible.
-Taking up yoga for the fibro control/my own desire to get back into it.
-ALL. THE. COFFEE.
On the one hand, I'm kind of overwhelmed by what I've gotten myself into this year. On the other hand, this is what I love. I love doing things, and I love the things I'm doing. I'm just going to have to continue being my ambitious and overly organized self. Honestly? If everything works out right, this is more or less what I want my life to be. Except, eventually I want to swap out being a student with being a mom. Eventually.
Annnnnnnyhoo! I would super appreciate it if you order my poetry collection Queen of Pentacles, releasing 8/16. If you do read it, I'd love for you to review it on Amazon, Goodreads, etc. I would also be so very appreciative for any Devils in the Valley pre-orders. That novel has been my baby for years and I really want to get her into readers' hands. Even sharing links to Queen of Pentacles and Devils in the Valley helps--you never know who might be interested! You would pretty much be my hero if you shared both links and bought both books. Like, Buffy Summers/Spider-man/X-man-level hero.
Why might you like Devils in the Valley?
-college town, with a twist
-fantasy set in our world
-sexual tension for days
-themes of power, autonomy vs. working with others, & tradition vs. innovation
-women who kick ass
-putting new cosplay opportunities into the world
Still unsure? If you click here, you can read the first chapter 100% for free. And I've got a book jacket-style description on that page, too. I'd love if you commented on there, even to say hey.
So go ahead. Make my day. :)
(Meanwhile, I'm going to go throw up. Or maybe do a happy dance. I dunno. At some point, there'll be coffee involved.)

...to all the kind folks spreading word about the Twitter chat and saying you'll be there! Love you guys. Can't wait to curl up with a cup of hot coffee and chill with you. <3
P.S. Tonight was weird. Two cops walked past our apartment with no explanation. Then I saw a mama turkey out our front window, shortly followed by 5-6 baby turkeys. Then they vanished back into the woods. Andy lost her shit. Biggest birds she's ever seen before were ducks.

So you know how I'm planning a Twitter chat about writing, books, video games, comics, etc.?
So here's an insider tip--if you join in on the chat and answer the questions with #WordsEtc at least five times (there are 15 planned questions), then you're entered to win a free signed copy of my chapbook that I wrote and designed in 2008, including two short stories, one flash fiction, and a novel excerpt. This is not for sale anywhere and has only been given as a gift to family/friends. I would also super duper appreciate it if y'all could tell your friends about this Twitter chat so we could really get some friendly dialogue going. (You most definitely don't have to be a writer to come and chat. All are welcome!!!) I don't have to tell you guys how great online community and making internet friends is. I'm hoping for a fun time here!
And, just as a reminder about the other raffle-y type things I've got going on until 8/15:
Goodreads (1 item, signed)
Twitter (5 items, signed)
(Buying my book would make for a really awesome birthday gift to me!)
I also have had some good news this week. The other day I got four poems accepted for publication and I'm being interviewed to be the featured poet for their Feminism & Strong Female Voices issue of the magazine. Yesterday I got a poem accepted, and today I've gotten two more accepted. That's a total of 7 poems accepted in 5 days by 3 lit mags, which is pretty damn cool. And I've got a couple of surprise things coming that I haven't announced yet. :)

If you were talking with people about books/writing and wanting to ask these people you were talking to any questions about books/writing, what questions would you ask?
No reason. Just curious.
Asking for a friend.
In... uh... Canada.
(I'm looking for general questions re: books/writing, not specific ones for me/my book. Though I may or may not be looking for that in the near future. I have so many secrets planned, you guys. And I'm so excited to share them with you! There's a whole calendar involved and everything.)

Literally, tweet with #QueenofPentacles and the link to my book's page any time before the release date (8/16) and you're entered to win a bundle of sweet stuff! It'd be really awesome if someone from the community won it. International is okay! If you'd prefer, I could also send this bundle to a friend/family member instead as a gift from you. Can sign any or all of the included items. See the link for full details!
Goodreads will randomly pull a winner's name when it ends on August 16th. The Twitter giveaway does not influence the Goodreads giveaway in the least! Plus? You can enter both if you want! This one is for a signed copy of Queen of Pentacles.
If you need me, I'll be over here.
Because my book comes out one freakin' month from today.
I'm a writer, teacher, and native of Queens, NYC. I love books, coffee, my kittens, community building, Buffy, and projects. Random Friend Requests accepted 99% of the time.
Reasons people are in the 1% of my RFR include, but are not limited to: you make me or other women on the site uncomfortable, you are generally not kind toward members of the community, I think you may be a spam bot, etc.
