    • Welcome to the Holiday Gift Guide

      Ashley The Know

Eric Vespe recently joined us to be our resident movie nerd, but he has many skills. Every year, he publishes one of the most comprehensive holiday gift guides on the internet, and this year he's doing it with us! Whether you're looking for movies or collectibles or games or housewares or art or... well, pretty much anything, if it's geeky and awesome he's probably found it and listed it in this guide.

We'll be putting up additional sections of the gift guide over the next several days, but we're starting off with two of his favorites: blu-rays/dvds/4k video and art.

Check it out, let us know if you get anything for someone you love (or, let's be honest, yourself), and if you've got additional gift ideas throw them at us!

NOTE: there are some links in this guide that include affiliate links for sites like Amazon. What this means is that if you click the link and find something you like and buy it, Amazon pays us a small referral fee. We're hoping to use this to fund cool new stuff for The Know, but it's not a consideration for what goes in the guide itself, and we include a ton of stuff from all across the internet simply because it's super cool. We just want to be totally transparent about the process so you know what's going on when you click those links.

    • We Want Your Feedback

      Ashley The Know

      Hello, Know Buddies!

We're doing a survey to learn more about the people who watch our content, specifically, so we can improve and develop in a direction that means more content you enjoy.

If you have a few minutes, please take the survey and tell us more about who you are, what you enjoy, why you enjoy it, what you'd like to see more of, and any extra feedback you want us to have.

    • Welcome Eric Vespe to The Know

      Ashley The Know

Since launching The Know I've had the privilege of working with a number of talented writing voices. Coming in to the office every day to digest and debate through the events of the video game world is like coming home.

Today, I'm lucky enough to be able to add another name to that list (and one I've had my eye on for a long time): Eric Vespe, known to many in the entertainment world as Quint. Eric, formerly of Ain't It Cool? News, has been one of the foremost writers in the entertainment space for 20 years, and has agreed to join on with The Know to lead the charge deeper into movie and entertainment coverage for us.

This is really huge for us and we're lucky to have him. I like movies. Most of us do, really. But when I see how passionate Eric is for the medium, and just how much he knows about every element of every genre, I realize just how much I have to learn. His enthusiasm is infectious and makes learning more about movies FUN, which is exactly what we need.

Over the next few weeks you'll start to see Eric's work appear on the website and in videos. We're also going to be working together to develop new content that takes advantage of Eric's unique strengths, and I can't wait for you all to see it.

Until then, please welcome Eric to the family!

      Ashley The Know

We're holding an official meet up for The Know and our Know Buddies at RTX! Join us Friday from 6PM to 8PM at Bar 96 on Rainey Street (walking distance from the convention center!) for casual drink and chats. It's right between the last panels for the day and the VIP party so no excuses for not coming to say hello!

If you can't make it we've got panels and signings throughout the event where we'll be giving away fun stuff, and we'll do our best to meet as many people as possible.

    • YouTube Live at E3 with Rooster Teeth!

      Ashley The Know

We're less than 2 weeks away from E3 2017, and you know what that means. Mark your calendars, because once again Rooster Teeth is working with YouTube to bring E3 to you. Get Ready for YOUTUBE LIVE AT E3 WITH ROOSTER TEETH, brought to you by War for the Planet of the Apes!

It's convenient, as comfortable as whatever chair or couch you prefer to lounge in, and it's way cheaper than flights and hotels and passes to the event. Plus, you'll get to see more games and have more access to developers on our stream than you would even on the show floor, and your feet won't hurt at the end of the day!

Instead let @burnie, @gus, @Ryan, @micaburton, @acarboni, and myself do all the hard work while you kick back and enjoy.

      Here's The Plan:

Let's start off nice and easy with a low-key "after hours" style stream for the EA press conference as we gird our loins for the next 5 days. Ahead of the conference we'll go over our predictions and what we hope to see. Then you can shout at us for talking during a trailer you really like for an hour or so. Then we'll discuss everything we learned afterward, get your opinions, and pat ourselves on the back for a solid day of work.
      START TIME: 11:30 AM Pacific / 2:30 PM Eastern / 6:30PM UTC

      SUNDAY, JUNE 11
Today are the Xbox and Bethesda press conferences. We'll kick off early in the afternoon to consult the crystal ball on what Xbox is bringing, settle in to find out with the conference, and then review whether it lived up to expectations. Bethesda isn't until late in the evening so in between we'll play games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Jackbox Party Pack with the community, go over all the trailers we've seen so far, answer questions from the community, and routinely check on the Funhaus drunk stream in case they need a hospital. Then we'll rock through the Bethesda conference and either jump up and down in excitement or moan about how we really wanted Elder Scrolls VI this year but didn't get it. Typical Sunday night, really.
START TIME: 1:30 PM Pacific / 4:30 PM Eastern / 8:30 PM UTC

      MONDAY, JUNE 12
It's groundhog day! Except today it's Ubisoft and PlayStation holding down the fort with their press conferences. We'll kick off a little early to predict how long the Ubisoft conference will go this year and whether we'll see STEEP 2 (!), watch the conference, then grade it out of Assassin's Creeds. Then we'll play games with you guys and eat too loud into a microphone until it's time for PlayStation, which we'll judge for its lack of Shenmue and call it a night. Now the real work begins.
START TIME: 12:30 PM Pacific / 3:30 PM Eastern / 7:30 PM UTC

      TUESDAY, JUNE 13
Oh boy! It's show day! But before it's show day, it's Nintendo time! We'll kick off bright and early to watch the Nintendo Spotlight before diving into our show floor coverage. We've got game demos, interviews with developers and industry luminaries, and appearances by friends of Rooster Teeth all day as we bring the show floor to you.

START TIME: 8:30 AM Pacific / 11:30 AM Eastern / 3:30 PM GMT

We're continuing our live show coverage with a full day of the biggest games parading through the show straight to your eyeballs, and in addition to the gameplay we'll also have developers on to tell us more about their games. Plus, we'll be sending one of our hosts onto the show floor to take us on booth tours based on what you tell us you want to see. Also, we may have a birthday party. Possibly.

START TIME: 10:00 AM Pacific / 1:00 PM Eastern / 5:00 PM GMT

Dawn of the final day. We're ending the show on a high note with more video games, guests, booth tours, shenanigans, and probably a lot of coffee. A. LOT. OF. COFFEE. And maybe some lozenges. But mostly coffee. And game demos! And you guys!

START TIME: 10:00 AM Pacific / 1:00 PM Eastern / 5:00 PM GMT

Does any (or all) of that sound like your thing? Great! Here's how you can watch:

We'll be streaming live on and If you miss any of it, don't panic. You'll be able to watch the full streams on YouTube later, or check out the individual interviews and demos that will be posted to

We've got some fun new stuff for the stream this year that will make it more interactive so you can guide the content we make and let us know what you think of the games being shown, and we're going bigger this year than we've ever gone before.

We'll have more details and links to the scheduled livestreams coming soon, so keep an eye out. In the meantime, start practicing your cough so you can be sick for a couple days or practice your alt-tab game so you can look productive AND get your E3 stream game on.

    • What's Next for Glitch Please

      Ashley The Know

Today is our final pilot episode of Glitch Please for FIRST members so I wanted to take a minute to thank everyone who's been watching and offering feedback to help us make tweaks, and to share some details about what's next.

First, the thanks. Seriously, you guys are the best and I appreciate the crap out of you. What I love about this pilot process is that we can take a concept we think we like and iterate on that concept with live feedback from you guys. And, episode by episode, it improves and finds its feet like a little show baby we're making together. You've been patient and thoughtful and enthusiastic and that means a lot to me.

For Glitch Please these iterative tweaks are most visible in segments like the News Speedrun. Initially we thought having a time limit on the discussion would keep it fast-paced and keep us from getting off in the weeds, but as that didn't play we tried a couple different ways of structuring it until we've found one that seems to work well for everyone. That same feedback has found its way into all the nooks and crannies of how the show works. And we'll keep making tweaks in the future too.

Now for what's next. We've got the thumbs up to enter full production, so we're working on that next, but you won't have long to wait. We're kicking the show off the first week of June. It will be available for FIRST members on June 2 and public/YouTube on June 3, and we'll have a post-show that remains exclusive to FIRST members (we're still thinking up a name for that--I suggested Secret Level. Gus suggested Level 257 in a nod to Pac Man. Leave suggestions if you've got them!).

When the show returns we'll have a set, logo, and graphics--we're not going crazy with it, but there will be some fun shiny touches--but we'll all still be huge dorks and there's really no putting polish on that one. I'll try to get some sneak peeks to share as we get it all in place.

I've mentioned in some of the pilots that we plan to do a livestream for FIRST members as well. We still plan to do that but it's not going to make it in time for launch. The broadcast studio is pretty hectic right now, between all the current shows and the projects in active development. As a result we don't always have one set day and time to record this show, and without that consistency it doesn't feel right to ask you guys to constantly be shifting your schedules to try to catch it live. Once we do get a consistent studio time, we'll kick off the streaming so we can bring in your reactions and feedback live, which is an element I really love. I'm bummed we're not launching with it, but on the bright side it means we can celebrate all over again when it starts.

ALSO, join the official Glitch Please group! This is where I've been getting prompts for some of the games, suggestions for guests, mailbag details, etc. and it's where I'd like to collect any art from the community to feature on the show or post-show and do check-ins.

We're going to try out a mailbag segment on the next pilot ep of Glitch Please! If you have a video game related question you'd like us to answer on the show, or a long love letter about Gus and his nudity, or anything like that please shoot us an email! (You can reply here too, but we'd really like to test the email capabilities and see how that works out too). Email address is: glitchplease at roosterteeth dot com

If we don't answer your question on the show it doesn't mean we don't like you. We do! It might just take us time to figure out what types of questions/comments/etc. work best in our format, and if we get a bunch we might not be able to get to them all in the time we have!

Next week we're going to try a new segment that's kind of goofy called Pitch a Game. We're going to randomly select a couple elements and each try pitching game ideas that includes those elements.

If you want to throw in an element try:

      * A Character (or more general character trope)

      * Setting and/or time period

      * Random plot element

      * Villain

    • Welcome to Glitch Please

      Ashley The Know

At the end of last year we decided to sunset our gaming podcast, The Patch. It wasn't an easy decision because it's a podcast Rooster Teeth has been doing for years and we all enjoyed the opportunity to sit down and nerd out about games on a weekly basis, but it had become increasingly clear to us that it had lost its way a bit.

To some degree, that was difficult because when it started the premise was pretty simple: everyone says we talk about game on the RT Podcast too much so let's make a podcast just to talk about games. From there it kind of took on a life of its own and evolved, but was always pretty freeform. While that meant we could do what we wanted with it for the most part, it also meant there wasn't a structure to keep it consistent and it meandered into three or four different formats over the nearly 200 episodes of its run.

That's not great for a show or its audience. So we decided to make the hard call and start over.

And that's how Glitch Please was born. We want to take the best of The Patch but fit it into a structure that's more stable and consistent in how it operates. And also, if I'm being 100% honest, I would kill every show in the world if it meant it would come back with a set designed by Marcus LaPorte.

Glitch Please should look familiar in a lot of ways. @gus, @Ryan, and myself will still be talking about games every week. This first episode is just us because we're still tightening up the details, but we'll have guests from Rooster Teeth and beyond as well.

What's changed is that we're thinking of our conversation in terms of segments and topics that fit together. Some of the segments will cycle from week to week, but this way it's planned out in advance and we won't fall into the gravity well of any one thing *cough*VR*cough* for months at a time. Or, even if we do discuss it pretty frequently, it won't be the ONLY thing we have time for... and we'll have timestamps so you can skip it.

Oh, and we're killing the hour time limit in favor of discussing things as long as we feel they need to be discussed. That might mean we have some long episodes around e3, and some short ones around game droughts, and hopefully you guys are cool with that variance because we think it will be better for the content.

This is still the pilot phase. It's all subject to change if some of our theories don't pan out, so stick with us. We want your feedback to see what's working, what can be further improved, what you'd like to see... basically, everything. We want to make a show that we love to do and that you love to watch.

Comments on individual episodes is awesome, but so is show-wide feedback. To facilitate that I've created a new group here on the site to collect thoughts, ideas, comments/questions for a mailbag, fan art we can show off, and as many nudes of Gus as the internet can handle.

Watched the Try Hard podcast (that you were on):  I was excited for WonderWoman too... but the only parts of the WW trailer I enjoyed were the fight scenes. And in BvS the fight scenes of Batman fighting all those goons was good. The plot still fell through.

Do you think the trailer shows enough story aspect to be enjoyed outside the fight scenes?

This might be an issue I'm having, rather than the site, but it's been a while since I've seen a new The Know video here. The last one I can see is 'More games WORSE on Playstation 4 Pro', but I can see on the youtube channel there have been at least three videos posted after that. I don't even know if the scheduling or upload is something you deal with, but I figured I'd hit you up in case it was something that needed to be looked into.

      Thanks :)

Yeah the first time I noticed this was when Mica was rocking Black Cat on Always Open and they showed a clip of a Know video shot that day. It's not on the site, but it is on YouTube however. There have been a couple updates here and there that haven't shown up on The Know's Recent Updates. I brought it up on 'Is this Xbox Scorpio VR?', but have just been clicking over to YouTube to check on any I may have missed. Hope it gets resolved somehow.

Thanks for keeping us in the know, Ash!

just watched the always open episode where you talked about gross habits, just wanted to say that bugs eat other bugs so when you kill them and leave them around you're actually leaving food around for them which attracts more of them, so it doesn't scare them of but bring in more.

Just a heads up, you missed out on the one of the other big names attached to the CSGO scandal. Josh Beaver also known as is listed as the Secretary. A quick Reddit search shows he has deleted VODS where he was answering questions from angry followers until he went into Sub Only Mode and then offline shortly after. Josh was KNOWN for being on CSGOLotto all the time and making RIDICULOUS bets and winning a lot of the times.

The last name on the list is another COD YouTuber, while not as famous, he was making Gambling videos as well and constantly promoting the site. same as the others and deserves the same punishments.

Just listened to the Patch #125. Y'all talked about the Sci Fi clones/ teleporting. I'll check out Altered Carbon as soon as finish The Battle, Alter World Book 5.

One of my favorite properties to adjust this was Borderlands 2. The New U station says, "Greetings, clone of the recently deceased!" or "Hyperion suggests that you do not think about the fact that this is only a digital reconstruction of your original body, which died the first time you respawned. Do NOT think about this!" after a respawn. It was a heavy moment in such a tongue in cheek game the first time I heard those.

Keep up the good work. Cheers!

The New Destiny DLC seems oddly similar to extortion. "Hey we made more content for this game you seem to like a lot, if you buy it you get tons of neat stuff but if you don't we will take away some of what you already have". Compare to; "Hey this is a nice shop, sure would be bad if somebody came in and trashed the place, we do live in a bad neighborhood after all. You know for a price we could make sure that doesn't happen, or we could make sure that it does happen, your choice."

I just caught up on The Patch finally, and heard you guys were playing Crypt of the Necrodancer this week. I love this game, so I'm super excited to see you guys are playing it. I did want to give a word of advice, though, and I apologize if this has already been forwarded to you guys: definitely try it on the dance pad, but start out and learn the basics using a keyboard or controller. There's definitely a learning curve to the game just to get into the groove of it, and trying to climb that while using the dance pad can ruin the experience for you. Get your legs under you first (no pun intended), and once you get a handle on the mechanics of it move on to your dancing shoes smiley1.gif

Regardless, I hope you guys enjoy it at least half as much as I do!

Hi and welcome to the site! Unfortunately Rooster Teeth does not have a physical store front (you can find all their merchandise here on their online store. They do have booths/store products at conventions they attend however. As for tours, given the hectic nature of their production schedules, they do not offer tours of their studios.

All that being said, their convention, RTX, will be in early August this year where all the Cast and Crew will be there, along with a physical store of their products. Here is some information about the convention.

Hey, would it be possible for The Know to tone it down with the click-bait article titles? I might be alone in this but I actively dodge anything from buzzfeed and similar links from my friend and on other websites all the time because I feel that bad journalism needs to try to trick you into reading articles. I know that there are tons of books out there and studies showing that this type of advertising works, but I don't think that The Know needs to resort to every video being a question aimed at making a viewer think they are under attack. "Google vs Your Phone?!" ...really? If that is what The Know wants to be then that is okay. Not the end of the world. Just... I was hoping for journalism from people I trust without all the bullshit. Unfortunately the Know might not be able to survive without playing with the same rules as the top-10 articles which seem to spam facebook these days, I just hoped it would.

I have a book recommendation for you, since you seem to love books to an obsessive degree; like any self-respective reader should be. Try checking out the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson. Its a fantasy series that takes place in another universe, following the theme of "What happens if the hero of a story turned into a tyrant after saving the world?" The main character is a female badass that I think you might enjoy. A game is set to be released for it as well, coming out in the fall of next year.

I have a suggestion for The Patch Game Club Book Club! I''m hoping you'll see it here since I don't have a Google + account to comment on YouTube.

Keeping with the Japanese game theme, what if you guys played Yandere Simulator? It's not exactly a full game right now, so I'm not sure if you guys would actually want to do that, but I just thought I'd suggest it if you were interested!

Also would you consider playing any Nintendo games, specifically Zelda games?

Really been enjoying some of the new changes on The Know lately. Specifically, the multiple "anchors" per video has been working really well since people at RT have such great chemistry together. In general, just an exciting time for TK in general, what with Funhaus contributing as well.

Hey Ashley, I thought you might like to know this, since you mentioned it on The Patch. Okami has a touch-screen squeal called Okamiden, on the DS. Some copies even came with a paint-brush themed stylist to match the theme. It was about Amatersau's child, called Chibiterasu and he is a little puppy.

      Hey Ashley!

Sorry to put this in your personal comments but I didn't know where else to write it. I'd like to put forward a suggestion for what was my personal Game of the Year, Child of Light. I loved everything about this game from the superb visual style to the innovative battle mechanics to the absolutely beautiful soundtrack. I connected with this game on an emotional level unlike any other game I played this year. It rekindled that childhood-like imagination within me that made me want to explore and interact with this amazing world that I'd been put into in pure "Alice in Wonderland"esque style. Sure, some of the rhyming did feel like a bit of a stretch and the battles were too simple on lower difficulties; but I can look past those flaws because of the sheer amount of charm the game has and the joy that it brings me.

So whilst I know that you won't agree with this because you probably didn't play it or enjoy it as much as I did, but a game this good needs at least a mention in discussions for GOTY even if it doesn't get nominated. Although you'll probably never actually read this, at least I can say I tried. Love The Know, The Patch and pretty much everything you all produce and I hope you have a nice day :)

This is in reference to the latest and the next Patch. Probably should have mentioned that earlier.

I was listening to the patch and heard that you didn't know much about the Dragon Age history, I was actually the same way before I started the second game. The Dragon Age Keep has a video that plays that will show you the actions of the previous games, as well as allow you to make decisions about that worlds history. Just watch the video, changing things when you want, and you'll pretty much learn all you need to know; with few exceptions of course when it comes to the lore. Either way, hope you enjoy the game, it is a lot of fun; despite the glitches here and there.

Heard you mentioning the Litany of Fear from Dune on the CAH stream: incidentally, Jeph Jacques (the awesome dude who draws and ) actually has the Litany as a tattoo. Dude has crammed so many Dune jokes into his comics.

Listening to The Patch, and I heard you talk about the button mashing.. .If I hadn't see this for myself, I would have logged it under the 'yeah right' mentality. However one of my friends is a button masher on almost any game.. On Spider-Man 2, he somehow started to webswing, shit a web ball and did a web zip past the web ball and had it pass him as he landed... How he did that, I have never found out... and he was like, 'How'd I do that.' Your story about not being able to replicate moves reminded me of that moment.

Thought I'd mention that the link to The Know at the top of the page doesn't show up on the Store or RTX sites the way it does on RT and AH. Not sure if this is intentional, I just thought I'd tell you.

Just to say on the last patch I got yo back over the whole jif gif thing, if there's one constant with internet comments it's that there's always people trying to prove others wrong and just being wrong

I don't mean to be a dick, but I think the Patch #64 has an incorrect annotation on the home page of the website, it says, "Gus makes his return on The Patch #63." I may have misunderstood it, and if so sorry for the inconvenience.
