Feeling Nostalgic... Been taking a look into the past and wanted to say "Hi".
I was just taking time to notice how much things have changed. Shortly after High School my best friend showed me this video of some video game characters going back and forth about nonsense that made me laugh my ass off. One of the reasons I liked it the most is that it was so obscure that I could call it my own. You couldn't just walk down the street and find a stranger that has heard of it, that was very important to me. I found something that was good but not necessarily popular, a concept that's near and dear to this former teenage anarchist's heart. And before I knew it, I was hooked. Like clockwork, week by week, I'd completely shut down my parent's ability to make phone calls (...with their permission) in order to summon the screeching demon that twas my dial-up modem just to find what clever one-liners Red vs Blue had in store for me. It gave me something to look forward to. So much so that when I heard that if you sign up to their site you could get the videos a day early I quickly signed my life away to their databases...
And that is where I found this wonderful group of down-to-earth, (for the most part) kind-hearted group of rapscallions, rascals and rowdy ruffians that make up the Red vs Blue Community. I like it here, after so long of not really feeling like I could identify with many people I found a place where like-minded people gathered. And if you compare it to the social site giants like facebook or myspace it is a very small community, one where it's far less a gamble to try to meet new people. For awhile, as a joke (and to maintain my stance as a teenage anarchist going into my early twenties), I tried to maintain 666 friends. In doing so I meet some really nice people. Being able to let go of that stigma that I should be ashamed of how I identify myself as a gamer or comic book reader was a weight off my shoulders. Made a few friends, had some memorable conversations, done a rant or two that people may or may not have even read (this one included [smiley face]), even practiced my flirting a bit.
Back then I found myself pretty pathetic. I had never had a job where it wasn't my responsibility to take out the trash, I was going to a 2nd rate community college, I had pipe dreams of making video games while playing a dusty old PS2 that only worked when it wanted and the girl that was on my mind more than any of that was attached to another man. Do a Lost-esque flashforward to present day and the girl is mine, I am a computer programmer attending a better school where me and a small group are designing a game for the Blackberry Storm (Side Note: I now play my 360, PS3 and Wii on my 42" High-Def TV). Believe it or not I don't attribute all of that to the conversation about how the Warthog looks like a Puma, but I believe the road to get here should be appreciated. So, if this happens to be my last venture here I'd like to thank the big wigs as well as the small fries. This is a nifty little place, you can't deny that.
