Pay to Game...With Girls?
I know, 2 posts in 1 month, but today's topic was really thought provoking and I felt that I should share it and get the input of the everyone else. I recently read an article on IGN concerning a new web-business called GameCrush, a site which allows you to find girl-gamers and pay to play with them on Halo or Gears of War. At first it seemed like a really cool idea, I mean most guys have, at one point or another, thought of spending a date with a girl in a multiplayer match pwning noobs and that is basically what this site is doing. I honestly think it's great that there is a site where gamers can meet other gamers of the opposite gender who won't team-kill you when your back is turned. My problem with the site is that the guys are paying the girls to game with them which, from my perspective, seems to have the feel of a prostitution ring. Now I am not saying that the girls participating in this are, in fact, prostitutes, merely that the site borrows heavily from the oldest of professions with a little E-Harmony thrown into the mix.. While I can't find the words to adequately express my feelings on this topic I will say that meeting a girl on a site, similar to this one, and deciding that you should hang out in a Halo 3 match is a natural progression of an inter-personal relationship, but paying a girl, hell anyone, to game with you seems fairly sleazy, desperate, and cheap. Sorry for any toes I may have stepped on, I didn't intend to insult anyone and certainly don't look down on any of you who may feel differently, I am merely trying to convey my impressions of this business. So please, regardless of how you may feel on my perspective, post a comment below after you read the article as I'd really like to here your take on this matter. Am I dead-on-the-nail or just too sensitive about these things. Thanks either way for your time and thoughts.
