My God! I wrote this story for a Latin project. We had to create our own god in the Greek/Roman mythology. Tell me what you think about!
A long time ago, Athena was busily spinning on her loom. Her goal; to make the most life-like weaving in all of the world. She used the finest of threads, the richest of dyes, and was completely devoted to her work. When she was done, she stepped back and admired her masterful work. On the weaving were two identical men, but the weaving appeared darker on one side than on the other. After completing her task, she hurriedly departed for the Olympian Council. While she was describing her work to the Olympians, Hermes let out a gasp. While Athena’s weavings were excellent, what Hermes saw greatly shocked him. The figures looked exactly as they would if they were real! The gods were greatly confused until Apollo suggested that perhaps Athena’s great craftsmanship had created new life! As the days passed, the image was more and more life-like until as one, the “twins†as they were now called by most of the gods, both slowly extended their hands out of the weaving and then the rest of the body proceeded. When they first came out of the weaving, they turned around and the twins split it in half and absorbed it into themselves. From then on, they could transform themselves into this weaving and create sounds and images. As the first twin emerged from the weaving, there was a great shine of light, and a common feeling of euphoria was felt, thus they named him Bonus, or good. As the second twin emerged, there was a general feeling of ill will and resentment, so they named him Improbus. Bonus took an instant liking to the Olympians, while Improbus was fascinated by the Titans. Improbus journeyed to Tartarus to seek the council of the Titans, as the twins had a new game that they played. They would each try to entertain the Olympians with displays of sounds and imagery, and Bonus was noticeably better at these displays, and because of the quick movement, they called them “movies€. The twins harnessed the atmosphere of the room and used its essence to create these “movies€ Improbus took all the bad impulses of the group, such as slow thinking and no emotion or far too many, while Bonus seemed to be able to show what people wanted to see the most. As Improbus was very jealous of Bonus and his abilities, he thought that the Olympians could not help him. Bidding farewell to Athena, he left Mt. Olympus. What he hadn’t told the Olympians was that he was going to live with the Titans in Tartarus, and Hades approved of this but swore to tell no one. Hades felt that if the Titans could be entertained by Improbus, they may be more peaceful and they may pass eternity a little faster. (This is why prison overseers often show movies to entertain the prisoners in an attempt to keep them as peaceful as possible.) When Improbus arrived, the Titans welcomed him and he entertained them and learned the ways of evil from them. Meanwhile Bonus had started to make journeys away from Mt. Olympus as well, but he wished only the best for people and helped spread the divine words of the gods via (derivative!) his weaving. He learned much form the Olympians and was very pleased to hear their praise, but was not nearly as vain as his brother. He learned many things from his mother Athena, and also took counsel from all the gods and they also influenced the movies he showed as well. Ares imparted on him a sense of the value of the battle on the human psyche, Aphrodite the effect of a tragic love story. He also learned that certain people preferred certain types of movies. Improbus returned to Mt. Olympus many years later and he was at first welcomed, as only Hades knew just how much he had been warped by the Titans. As the gods requested him to show them a movie, he happily did so. As soon as he started, all the gods began to feel an intense feeling of pain in their brain. Zeus managed to choke out the words “the badness hurts my brainâ€. If the great god Zeus’s vocabulary had been so laid low by the pain, we can only think that the pain would have been unbearable to mortals. Bonus quickly intervened and showed a most spectacular movie featuring college kids. The gods recuperated and banished Improbus from Mt. Olympus forever. The movie that Apollo later said was “pure pleasure†was named “Animal Houseâ€, and it was good. Improbus began trying to seek revenge on mankind with his movies and the gods decided that they must stop this madman. They told Bonus to combat these evil movies. His first step was to show good movies everywhere, and where he did people were happy. Unfortunately, he could not be everywhere, and some brain explosions (caused from extreme badness) still occurred. Now Bonus had the idea to spread the word to stop the spread of the bad movies. He gathered a large number of people from a land called Crete and told them to spread words of warning to the human race. They were called Cretecs, and they were known the world over for their scathing speeches. Some of these were seduced by Improbus and his dark power. These Critics were severely disillusioned and suggested movies such as Anaconda and the new Star Wars movies. The Cretecs are known today as Critics, and plastic and other synthetic materials have long replaced weavings as the medium of movies. As the years went by, Improbus became weaker until he could only influence the minds of certain people. Bonus then retired to Mt. Olympus and now only engages himself mentally with the making movies. It was a never-ending conflict of good versus evil and the fight is continued by today’s filmmakers.
