Dwarf Fortress I can't stop playing it. It's the most impossibly deep game I've ever seen. It's staggering. And one of it's core principals seems insane, the fact that losing is FUN in Dwarf Fortress. You don't win, you just do a bit better each time. Unless you have a carp infestation wipe out all your most important dwarves. Anyway, this comic pretty accurately conveys the DF experience. With helpful comparisons, too.
UPDATE: Decided to post some of the impossibly awesome things the game is capable of.
"Champion wrestlers can be terrifying, capable of punching a charging knight's warhorse out from underneath him, hard enough to punt the animal back 40 feet and have it explode into gristle on impact. The 6ft tall heavily armoured highly trained knight himself will then rapidly find all his limbs snapped by a 5ft tall blood and vomit encrusted psychopath leaving him crippled and helpless whilst being slowly stomped to death to the protection his armour still offers against normal attack." - on the wrestling skill
Some nice quotes from the dev journal, too.
"During the test (a 20 sword free-for-all), a guy got stabbed in the lower body twice, his guts popped out, and then a third guy came up and severed his exposed guts, so that all seems to be working." "The dwarf Zach had selected didn't have any surgical experience. As I was watching, blood splattered on the walls and floor, and another dwarf ran over to diagnose the patient again, while the dabbling surgeon moved between repairing the compound fracture and trying to stop bleeding from malpractice. Eventually it was time to suture up the wound, and the dabbling surgeon did this... then again... then again... our poor patient had four sutures in his left wrist before I got the bug figured out."
And here is a standard generated description, for just some random jackass dwarf. Holy crap.
