So, about that update...
Life has been busy. Simplest way to put it, I guess. We've got a client that has an awesome app that we've been developing for the last year. About 4 weeks ago, we found out we had a make-or-break demo of this app with a huge potential buyer in 2 weeks (2 weeks ago). We got everything cobbled together for the demo (barely), and the potential client wasn't impressed, but was intrigued enough to not say "no." Now they're doing another demo on Tuesday, and things are looking much better; the app is much more stable and our client likes where the functionality is at. In other news, we've gotten 2 new cats in the last year. Last summer we picked up a tiny 4-week old kitten from my grandma's farm who was missing his back left foot. Bandit's now almost a year old and scrambling around the house. Two weeks ago, my wife brought home 4 kittens from a family friend who could no longer care for them, and while we were working to get them to good homes, we decided to keep one. Tigger has finally acclimated to the rest of the house and the dogs and is very playful. In a couple days, we're likely to be adopting a puppy from the local Humane Society that's about 8 weeks old. It looks to be a Newfoundland mix that got a lot of the Newfie and not much else. At 8 weeks, it's as large as King was when he was 8 weeks old. In January my grandmother got sick and was in the hospital for a month. We drove to Sioux Falls each weekend and visited her, and as we began to realize she wasn't going to be getting out, all my cousins came to visit. It was the first time that all of us grandchildren had been able to get together and have an opportunity to do something without our parents being around. Despite what had brought us all to be there together, we were still able to get out and enjoy some time together. I think I got to know my cousins far better in 2 weekends than I did in my entire life. Emily and I are really hoping to get to see them more in the future on better occasions. King just turned two. His shoulder is past my waist, and he can easily set his full head onto the dinner table. We finally got him weighed again in December, and he was at 152 pounds. Max is now 13 and is getting really stiff. When he gets up after a nap, he sounds like a bowl of Rice Krispies. It's been hard watching him getting old. He can't walk very far any more, so seeing him get exhausted maybe 1/8th of the way through our usual route is really disheartening. I bought a '92 Polaris 350 4-wheeler last spring and have been riding that to work when it's not so cold that I freeze my hands. It only gets 17 mpg, but it beats the 12 my pickup gets running just to and from work. It was a lot of fun taking it out deer hunting this past fall; sure as hell beats pulling deer out of gullies and canyons by hiking into them. Anyhoo, that's the last year in a nutshell. I still try to poke in here every week or two; I just don't feel like my life is exciting enough to be posting with any regularity. |
