Ultimate Spider-Man - Am I an Asshole? Not sure how many people on this site are comic fans but I don't have anywhere to post this so... here we go:
I don't buy Ultimate Spider-Man anymore.
For those who don't know, Peter Parker was killed off not long ago and Mile Morales, who has realized he too has some spider-like abilities (and some not-so-spider-like abilities) slowly took over the mantle after Peter's death. ((He was actually at the scene where Peter was killed so I imagine he's trying to honor him in some way)) From what I understand he attained them through pretty much the same means as Peter... except that Miles was not on some science-y field trip.

Some people may be concerned that I'm being prejudice due to the fact that Miles is a minority; he's a black kid with a rather Latino last name and some people, aka racist assholes, have kicked up a fuss about that.
I would never consciously do that. I don't care that Nick Fury is an awesome black dude now, it's never been an issue for me. And I have no problems with the idea of Spider-man being black or Asian or gay or whatever. In fact I was really, REALLY hoping Mr. Glover would play Peter in the new film. Oh well. It still looks cool.
So what's my problem, then?
It can be summed up this way: Peter B. Parker is the only Spider-man for me. There will never be another super-hero that I will spend my money on monthly. Amazing Spider-man and New Avengers are the only super-hero genre comics I even buy.
I love Peter. And Spider-Man is Peter. Merely having these words go by in my head "Spider-man is Miles" just feels wrong. My inner dialogue can't even finish the sentence.
Now, I know how that sounds. I don't dislike Miles in any way. He sounds pretty awesome, actually. I just... can't push myself to buy it.
What I hope will eventually happen is that Peter makes a come-back somehow and Miles will still be around. Like, maybe they could work together or separate into two Ultimate Spider-Man series. But... this is the Ultimate universe, as the title implies. And when they make a change it tends to be rather permanent so... likely not to happen. Which makes me sad inside.
And this isn't some push for people to boycott the series. I DON'T want people to boycott it. The more people who get into Marvel comics, the better.
This is just me. With my thoughts in my head and needing a place to put them.
Enjoy my brain vomit. And happy Spidey.
