So I feel that Mantle is Remnant's version of Detroit.

  • Kerisato

I would have thought more was to be said about Atlus seeing how they were pretty much a cornerstone in Cinder's plan. Good stuff, anyway.

Theory: Is Salem a citizen [or queen] of Mental? Seeking revenge for her country that was just forgotten by everybody and just dissapeared from maps?

    • Kerisato

I think her feud is far more personal. We haven't been shown much but from the looks of it I don't think she's human - more likely something that controls and creates Grim. Do you remember Qrow talking to the others (Ozpin, Glyndal and Ironwood)? He laughed at Ironwood's boasting how his fleet would make the enemies of humanity quake. Qrow replied saying, 'I've seen the things SHE has made and let me tell you; they are fear.'

And her introduction-ary speech at the end of Season 3 was directed to Ozpin as if they were long-time adversaries. I've been wondering about Ozpin's own humanity myself because they keep hinting that there's more to him than meets the eye. Even Cinder, before fighting Ozpin, told him how right SHE (not Cinder but possibly the same woman Qrow mentioned) was right about him.

And then there was Cinder's glove that she used to steal some of Autumn's power, it actually bears a strong resemblance to the dress that Salem had on.

I hope I wasn't the only one noticing the similarity between the area they found when digging underground and the after-credits Salem reveal? In that context, the scene we see here is could easily be underground, and the implications could go far.

    I guess we'll see, eh?

    • Jaanichu

What? Salem was above ground! You could see the smashed up moon.

also, Salem was revealed BEFORE the credits.

      just saying. ;)

as it is the world of "remnant" and we know for a fact it has a "forgotten past" then its at least plausible to think its some kind of post apocalyptic earth. looking at it now compared to our world map and factoring in some generous continental drift time with a bunch of sea level rising,

id say that the dragon island and Vacuo make up north and south America.

vale would be made up of Europe and Africa,

the little island to the south of mistral would clearly be Australia,

mistral would defiantly be Asia as seen by its culture,

leaving atlas which behaves like its half Russia and half north America,

geographically, that's not to far fetched.

Russia and some northern European countries could have broken off to form the island, and we know it was colonized (probably by people from north America, i.e dragon island/ Salem land/ Grimm town).

either that or im totally overthinking this,

    • LewisRoantr1 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Only thing to ask now is where the Grimm and Dust came from? From what I've seen, Grimm aren't born like animals - but created via a supernatural element, and Salem is probably the main producer and creator of Grimm. And Dust comes across as a Supernatural Element too that defies our world's laws of physics in its applications and capabilities.

    • Firerad_Fieritis

While the post-apocalyptic idea is questionable due to what Lewis just mentioned, I agree that the different kingdoms/continents are relative to where they are in our world, backing up this theory. I even put a theory about this on the Mistral video.

    • TaleTheLost

You might be overthinking it a bit considering the map was created in a completely random fashion, but it's an interesting theory based on the layouts of the continents. I'm down.

    • Jaanichu

What im thinking, is that Atlas is America, Vale is Europe, Vacuo is southern Asia, Mistral is Russia and possibly the rest of northern Asia, and menagerie (Blakes home country and the little island you were talking about) is Australia.

I could just be talking out of my backside, but im sure that menagerie is Australia.

      what do you guys think?

Another comment below said it was like if the U.S. had a baby with the USSR. I agree that seems like the case. It's still possible that in terms of lifestyle, Vacuo might be closer to America. But I don't have a first membership so I don't know right now.

What then would you say is the big dragon shaped continent north of Vacuo?

When we say Vacuo is like "America" I think it's more apropos to say the Americas, and not simply the US.

    • Firerad_Fieritis

Yeah, that seems like the logical thing to do. All I was saying was the kingdoms represent certain cultures in our world relative to where they are on Remnant, such as Mistral, clearly Asian in nature, is located in the far east, where China, Japan, Korea, ect. are located.

I feel like this might be starting the volume with each member of team RWBY going to a different kingdom. But Blake could go to Haven following Adam. In the episode the beginning of the end he says he was going there, but then Cinder came and forced him to join with her.

    • mightymaster99

You just contradicted yourself in saying "Each member of team RWBY going to a different kingdom." We know Weiss is going to Atlas, Ruby is going to Mistral (Haven) with JNR, and Yang is staying in Vale. Don't you mean Blake is going to Vacuo?

I really do hope at some point in the future that RT hop on the idea to publish out a RWBY guide book of sorts. like a total informational book about the lore in remnant as well as way more in depth descriptions of all these places.
maybe dedicate a chapter to different Grimm with some cool faux anatomical studies of them, and another chapter for character profiles or weapons.
Maybe even kingdom relationships despite the treaties in place just awreguihr. World building!!
I'm absolutely in love with the idea of a nice wholesome WoR book.

Okay so we got some imagery in this one that kinda supports a big head canon of mine so forgive me for going off the rails with the fan theory here. So ever since we saw general Ironwood and how damaged and mechanical much of his body is I've been thinking "there is likely only one man that could fund prosthetic implants of that extent, lord schnee". I kept thinking that ironwood and Mr.Schnee have been in league with one another in some capacity for a long time. Then in this world of remnant who are the two imposing silhouettes we see looming over atlas, Ironwood and schnee. The two most powerful public figures in atlas and likely the entire world of remnant General Ironwood the leader of the worlds most powerful military, and papa schnee the owner of the most wealthy company on the planet. Between Schnees wealth and ironwoods power and influence, what could these two be planning if they're in cahoots with one another

I thought that much was obvious all along, personally. Given that the Atlas Military was building robot soldiers and giant mechs, they'd probably need a lot of help and resources from a global distributor and Dust R&D company like Schnee Dust.

I'm so ready for volume 4. Anyone think that ruby, weiss, blake, and yang are gonna be in separate kingdoms? (Ruby in I think Haven is a kingdom, Weiss in Atlas, Blake in Mistral, and Yang in Vale?

    • enigma85 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold That RDDT member from NY

Nope. The kingdoms are Vale, Atlas, Mistral, and Vacuo. Haven is the name of the Huntsman Academy in Mistral. The four major academies and their respective kingdoms are:

      Vale: Beacon
      Mistral: Haven
Atlas: Atlas (Atlas was formerly known as Mantle, the kingdom was renamed after the city/academy)
      Vacuo: Shade

As for the combat schools, we know of two currently:

      Vale: Signal
      Mistral: Sanctum

We already know Team RNJR is heading for Mistral. Weiss is obviously in Atlas. Granted, while anything is possible in regards to where the others will wind up, I strongly believe we're going to see Blake in Mistral and Yang in Atlas. In the trailer, we see Blake standing on a dock. It's not much to go on, but the hints of Mistral's connection to the sea, as well as it's thriving underworld lead me to think she will wind up there. If she's tracking Adam, there's a strong chance her path takes her there. Eventually, she'll cross paths with Ruby. As for Yang, she'll need to get that arm taken care of. Atlas is the world's tech leader. She's most likely to attempt to track down Weiss in an effort to get her arm replaced.

In short, I expect Team RWBY to have the two smaller teams swapped in the short term. Instead of the usual pairing of White Rose/Bumblebee, we'll have Ladybug/Freezerburn (not in the shipping sense mind you :P)

we wont if they only do the 4 kingdoms, remember in the first video Vale and Vacuo are on  the same continent. The dragon shaped continent and one other in the bottom right of the map are not ruled by any kingdom and thus have not been mentioned yet. But I'm sure they have a purpose for being there. My thoughts are that the worst of the worst type of grimm live on the dragon continent. Grimm such as the dragon grimm from the end of season 3.

Interesting. I had headcanoned a much more hostile transition. But it seems that it was just a matter of the school being the strongest part of the kingdom, leading to more stuff going there, leading to it being even stronger, leading to more aspects of the kingdom moving there, and so on.

Well, the Great War may have also played a part. Assuming Mantle were the aggressors, which is heavily implied at this point, the kingdom would have been far weaker than before. Similar to Germany after WWI.

@jaggedninja Except those subtitles are written by members of the community, so it isn't official...

The kingdoms of Remnent remind me of a kind of hybridization of the Provinces of Tamriel, and the Holds of Skyrim.

I love all this world building before v4 kicks off. The girls are out in the world now. Knowing these details now will make it easier. Thanks RT.

Prediction: When Salem moves against Atlas, it will be those 'left behind' in Mantle who will be her foot-soldiers. There's nothing like the long, bitter darkness of being left in more prosperous neighbours shadow to breed radicalism and militancy. Usually, when that happens, no one realises that you're making a deal with the devil for revenge... until it is too late.

Well shit.... you might just be on to something. cause just imagine Mantle used to be the most advanced kingdom in the world and probably had all kinds of military and hunters/huntresses protecting it to keep the kingdom safe, probably had all the money too. But once Atlas came along and all the hunters/huntresses moved there in order to teach/learn I bet some of the greatest and brightest of the military were/are some of the teachers at Atlas academy so the Military moves there to keep using them and "scout" new talent, then companies and businesses too in order to keep their military clientele and contracts.

And mantle gets left with jack and lemme tell you nothing makes people want revenge more than "returning things to the way they were" especially when these same people are used to being "on top". I bet all Salem has to do is have someone come in and say "Make Mantle great again" and talk about how Atlas is the reason the world is going to Hell cause they attacked Vale/Beacon and led the grimm in so what would they do to people in Mantle if they ballsy enough to attack another Kingdom/Academy

It's also interesting to note that Qrow said the people of Atlas found and adapted dust technology much faster and in more ways than the other kingdoms. We know that, in addition to her ability to use Grimm, Cinder has an affinity for dust as well. It would make sense if this is the kingdom she was from.

@sthom I would agree with you if it wasn't for the fact that Cinder stated she 'hailed from Mistral'.  If she was lying, I'm totally on-board with your statement.

So I actually guessed a lot of this ahead of time. I however expected the Great War to have been more influential or at least mentioned for the change from Mantle to Atlas. I really want a World or Remnant episode about the Great War. Who started it, why, who fought, and how did it conclude?

There's this novel thing called talking, I don't know if you've heard of it. Believe or not, but if you open your mouth and move certain muscles, sound comes out! Mind blowing, I know! Anyway, people can combine those unique sounds to form words which creates language which lets people communicate with one another.

As someone who has studied voice a bit, yeah It's an interesting sound he manages. It's almost in the range of what traditional voice study would consider "wrong" or "harmful", but he makes it sound so great.
