Amazing.  By far the best anime out.  With the help of Monty, you did it ...again.  The understory of Red vs Blue was so intriguing that I didn't think you could do something equal to that. The website with all its raunchy, sophomoric silliness never gave a hint that something deep, wonderful and meaningful could come out Rooster Teeth.  RWBY easily surpasses RvB ...easily.

Keep it up.  Very good.  All the accolades that you receive are well deserved.  Yes, I want my grandchildren to see it, too.

Fantastic finish to a wonderful volume.  This volume definitely had a different feel from the previous ones, but RT pulled it off very, very well.  We finally got to see Ren and Nora's backstory!  And I especially loved how everything shook out in the final few episodes: WBY starts moving again, each on their own, but at the same time.  Very well done.

Plus, Qrow lived!  Definitely didn't see that coming!  It was great to finish this volume with a victory, rather than the defeat that had been set up/foreshadowed.  Way to keep breaking the mold, RT!  Well done!

Please have Neo show up next season, she would make a perfect helper for Dr Watts, and it also adds another character who hates Ruby. Just to see Neo in disguise as Watts assistant or something would be great. Also we would maybe see a rematch between Neo and Yang and see how much better Yang has gotten. I want her to test herself against someone who easily beat her before she fights Adam.

I figured out what the relic is  at beacon. In volume 1 Glynda asks Ozpin on what he used for the relic that year. The relic is a item that each academy has, Ozpin most likely disguise the relic as a chess piece that would explain why Salem has not found the relic at Beacon. Or the relic is divided into the set of chess pieces seen in volume 1 to make sure that the relic is almost impossible to find at beacon. Or im just reading far far in between the lines of plot.

Same! Im super stoked for next season.

If they bring back the dragon though, i really hope it doesnt make that squealing noise like a pig. It was a bit odd...I mean the roar of that part man part horse monster was actually genuinely terrifying, and it fit perfectly.

but for a dragon to sound like a wild boar, when they already have a wild boar Grimm?

Well it wasn't that bad, still pretty sad that nothing much happened this season , I was hoping it would at least have 13-15 or 20 episodes but I guess by now it would be pretty much finished. I just wished they'd have delved more into the characters in regards to that farm boy and the villains too, as for the after-credits , t'was pretty rad , I hope season 5 will be longer or at the very least  feel longer so as to instill some satisfaction. Other than that I can't wait till the next season!!! :)

A+ Episode. I was kind of worried about the content after Season 3 because I've no clue how far Monty Oum planned this. But this season really continued in the same vein as the third; building up an epic tale and steering clear of more basic story telling. Hats off to Roosterteeth for that.

The fight with RNJR versus the Nuckevalee Grimm was incredible. Simply awesome. (And it was none-too-short, which is always good.) Everyone got a chance to shine. Those arms were just weird-ing me out and when it tore its stitched mouth like that to yell... Ugh. Definitely hoping they (RT) name it Harbinger Grimm. It just looked and fought like something that claws its way out of hell every morning, then spends the day slowly being dragged back, leaving it caught between two realms of existence; within one it must obey certain laws of physics and experience the effects of a corporeal body, but the other half can violate the rules in the most hideous, unnatural manner possible.

It's official, Ren Lie has one of the most practical Semblences yet. He really is perfect Huntsman material.

That brief moment where Nora Slapped him then started pleading/telling him not to die in vain, really plucked my heart strings. Especially when Ren briefly saw her as the little girl she used to be when they met. I loved the tactics RNJR developed, on the spot, to counter the Nuckevalee. More so towards the end; Ren using Juane's shield, Nora having Ruby fling her with her scythe, Juane's expanded sword. Heck, Ruby's scythe work was incredible. It was over-the-top but really felt like they were desperate enough to attempt anything. The short "Boop" moment when Ren and Nora were pinned or hanging against the wall and Nora was like "Stop staring!" but smiling when she looked away was perfect.

    And Qrow didn't die! (whew*

And the ending... Wow. So much foreshadowing! Yang is probably going to meet up with Blake and Weiss will likely end up meeting with Ruby and RNJR in Season 5. I'm guessing Yang is going to have a shot at vengeance against Adam (though I doubt it's going to go well). Weiss will probably be working with her sister to get used to life without Schnee wealth. And now Ruby and the rest of RNJR have to figure what exactly they're aiming to do.

Watts is not the headmaster, but apparently is a confident? And the headmaster of Haven knows he (Watts) knows Salem?!  I also thought Cinder was going to betray Salem but it looks like she might have rediscovered her hate and power. Wonder if she'll be sent after Ruby.

And the post credit scene: Not gonna lie that was one heck of a cliff-hanger. I wonder if that cane will allow Ozpin to reconnect to his power or will he use Oscar as a conduit, to access its power?

This season had a good feel to it, but honestly it wasn't as climactic as i'd have liked. The fight with the horseman was very good, liked that alot. Loved the story with Wise escaping. However, i don't like how it took an entire season for her to escape and an entire season for Yang to recover. This season seemed to have too much of the "Oh no... /these/ are the bad guys? huh? what? who are the bad guys? these are all so new bad guys" and not enough of them realizing who their true enemies were. every town that Ruby and her gang travled to seemed to be "suprise" after "suprise" with Ren (don't think that's how you spell his name idk) having to explain every single tale. Did they learn nothing in that school of theirs?

    • Omegafire18

As far as Yang and Weiss, it taking 'an entire season' is close to realistic, given their respective issues are nothing to sneeze at in real life, and can easily take 'much' longer to get over with (if they do at all).

Moreover, RWBY's volumes work in arcs, such as Vol's 1-3 being an arc, and Vol. 4 being the start of the next one, working into Vol's 5 and 6; it wasn't exactly time to be climatic, just like the finales of Vol. 1 and 2 were light compared to 3's.

This was a character development season.  Each member of RWBY had their major personal failings exposed and then corrected: Ruby doesn't actually know what's going on and just blindly flies into battle, but learned what's actually happening; Weiss hadn't fully committed to being a Huntsman and was still relying on her family's finances and name, but has now rejected all that; Blake ran away and continued to pull away from help (Sun), but learned that she can't protect people that way and doesn't need to suffer alone to protect those she cares about; Yang (obviously) suffered for her immediate and thought-less attack on Adam and for her fighting style that relies entirely on her Semblance, but has had to learn to be a more versatile and thoughtful fighter.  Plus we got a lot of backstory on Ren/Nora.

I've always loved this show despite the fact that I also heavily criticize it. That being said nothing really happened in this volume. It entertained me just because I like seeing the characters and fights, and the nuckleeve Grimm was a great idea as well. But can we honestly say this couldn't have been summed up in a few episodes? I can see Yang's and Weiss not being rushed too much, that makes sense, but Ruby's group walking and occasionally fighting was pretty pointless, and a bunch of things could've been sort of skimmed over. I guess it conveys an adventure? Right after the climax of a major arc? Poorly written in my opinion. So Ruby progressed the story a little, but let's be honest, Blake and Sun did nothing. They went on a ship, had a few funny moments, and then just decided from one conversation that they're going to take down the White Fang, which was already kind of a goal from Volume 1. Speaking of pointless, the villains. So one of them injured Qrow, and another is threatening, and or on the same side as Professor what's his name. Plus maybe a little vague exposition. Usually we get an epic final battle, but this season it was really just fighting a Grimm. Good season at best, entertaining, but honestly not your best work RT. I know I'm gonna down voted because this community cannot allow any critisicm to the show, but that's fine, you're just proving my point.

    • BurnsAsSun

But that was the point of volume 4! To see our heroes relaxing and taking back their strength. For me this volume was really cool and it was good to see Yang and Weiss taking place again in the fight.

    • Omegafire18

Vol. 4 is working in much the same way as Vol. 1: setting up how things are going to be, working as one part of an entire arc (think Vols 1-3 as an arc, for example), and otherwise not 'meant' to be climatic or anything truly serious just yet, even after the last climax.

^That was the point. You're entitled to your opinion, but honestly I think you have the wrong idea about how things were meant to go... including that 'taking back the White Fang' was a goal from Vol. 1. It wasn't; Blake only realized something was wrong (different from the violent turn altogether), struggled with it in Vol. 2, and then had it resurface here in Vol. 4, finally culminating in the actual decision to take it back - she never implied she was gonna before, or that the White Fang needed such a drastic measure; she only thought that there were problems that needed solving until recently.

I didn't expect this volume to be very good after the horrific ending of the last (great up till the end) volume 3, and I got what I expected. It was as joyless, depressing, and humorless as I feared it would be...at points, more so. Not one laugh...not one (plenty of downers though). Not one fun fight scene (plenty of scary, or sad ones). Not even a "laugh every time she speaks" Nora scene. Now she's a depressing, glum character like everything else about the post-trauma series including the lighting. I saw Nora's decline coming since she was the only one of my 4 favorite characters who avoided getting brutalized at the end of volume 3, literally in order of my favorites list.

I get the, "There'll be no rest, there'll be no love. There's be no hero in the end who will rise above" lyric, but dang...you guys over did it. I can only watch characters I love beat down only so much before drama becomes...well...abuse. An unprecedented, dramatic (one my say violent) departure from the formula the likes of which I've never seen. I'm scared to watch RWBY Chibi since I don't think I could bear seeing cute cartoon versions of my favorites get assaulted or maimed (sorry...I just don't trust you guys anymore enough to risk it).

I gather that the writers from The Walking Dead have joined the RWBY writing team.

It's clear to me that you at Roosterteeth have forgotten the point and premise of RWBY (or at least have never seen an episode).

    The Food fight sequence?

    Nora's antics.

Fight scenes with "Wow" moments that make you want to clap?

Ruby's overly dramatic voice of mundane comments?

    Ring a bell?

    No?

    Didn't think so.

You've lost me. I won't be back for Volume 5. You've beaten me just as you've beaten (in my favorites order) Penny, Pyrrha, Yang, and Nora.

I'd say the CRWBY did a great job this volume, best i can tell Monty had the fall of beacon, the death of pyrrha and a lot of the events in vol 3 outlined before his passing. People might say it could have been done better, but remember each volume is 2-3 hours long, they are cramming world building, character development, jokes and building the salem plot arc in the same amount of time as a standard movie. Yes the Vol 3 ending was depressing but it drives home that team RWBY and team JNPR are students, they are learning, they will make mistakes; the good guys can't always bat a thousand just because everyone wants to see a happy ending.

This volume is meant to be the characters recovering from the end of Vol 3, facing their inner demons and inevitability reevaluating their reason to continue their fight. This made for a more serious and solemn volume but there was still a fair share of humor; Sun meeting Blake's parents, the juxtaposition of Blake's parents feelings for Sun, and Nora still had some bubbly moments that still made me smile.

As for how they chose to develop Ren and Nora, i think it is a step in the right direction. Based on the last 3 volumes Ren and Nora were fairly one dimensional. In the previous 3 volumes all we really knew about them was that Ren seemed pretty cold and distant and that Nora had energy for the both of them and was always used by the writers as the comedic relief. In this volume we get the history between Ren and Nora, we saw the young sassy Ren become cold and seemingly emotionless and we got to see a more serious side of Nora when Ren's judgement was blinded by rage and pain. These two lacked character depth but after this volume we see that Ren can be expressive and that Nora isn't always comic relief.

It's a serious show, not a Sunday morning cartoon, personally I never liked the cheesey, forced comedy. Some people might, but the direction that the show is going in is fine, the characters aren't beaten down, as a matter of fact they're all rallying and appear to be at their strongest. See Yang.

    • Omegafire18

Clearly you don't know Roosterteeth then; they've done this in a bunch of their shows, including RvB. Moreover, the light-hearted aspects of being at school, easily dealing with threats, and otherwise having a blast was only meant to be the jumping-off point...

...at which point, it would turn dark and serious (which was intended from the start), and it has. It hasn't completely lost all the above points, but it's never gonna go back to how it was at the beginning, and not just because the premise/point of RWBY isn't what you thought it was OP.

    • Kerisato

"It's clear to me that you at Roosterteeth have forgotten the point and premise of RWBY (or at least have never seen an episode)."

That's the kind of comment that makes you look like a moron. They're, literally, the ones writing this show. And they have been from the beginning. Maybe you should go back and listen to ALL the songs they've been crafting for this show. Because, frankly, aside from "Caffiene" and maybe "Boop", none of them are very happy.

I've said it before, this is not 4KidsEntertainment. This is a show that's dealing with some very mature issues and has been from the beginning. In many aspects it's following the pattern of Harry Potter (though, doubtless there are others) where things start out wonderful and then slowly grow more and more serious as the world becomes less cheery.

Now either you're trolling or you've mistaken this show for a typical Saturday morning cartoon. This is not a Saturday morning cartoon (Well, I guess if you watch it on Saturday morning... but that's another matter) nor should it be expected to be such.

And as for fighting: Yes it was a bit more curtailed, more sparse. But if Ruby's scythe work didn't "wow" you here, it sure as heck didn't wow you in Season 3 or 2 or 1. And if Ruby's scythe work didn't "wow" you, I can't imagine anything else that did.

And, just to remind you, Beacon Academy fell. So where, exactly, do you want the gang of RNJR to have their food fight? In the wilderness which has already been described as incredibly hostile and teaming with creatures that feast on flesh for fun? Or maybe one of the many wrecked villages they pass through?

You come off as an elitist, misguided, and self-entitled. To that I say, Don't let the figurative door hit you on the way out.

    • dalumbrhack

Simply put, for rwby, school's over. Now they're out in the (their) real world, which if you've been paying attention, you would know isn't a "fun" place. I personally never liked chibi because it was sunshine and rainbows, you should go back to it. The rwby you enjoyed was a sheltered beginning, it's gone now, time for them (and you) to grow up

    • cherrychocolate1999

Well, clearly YOU don't understand this show's point. And you have the balls to insult the writing team even after the fantastic effort they've put into this season. "Not one laugh...Not one." So you didn't think Sun's interactions with Blake's parents were funny? Or Jaune revealing his bunny hoodie? "Not one fun fight scene" So you didn't think the Geist (from the first chapter) Grimm and sea dragon Grimm were fun, interesting fights at all?

The characters are developing. If you wanted Nora to stay a one-dimensional goofball the whole show and never get any MEANINGFUL personality, then you clearly don't know jack shit about writing a story. Nora is my favorite character in the show, and I'm GLAD they're giving her more to do than crack jokes and just be zany. They've given her a great backstory. They've given her more grounded emotions than just being over the top all the time. If you want zany comedy, watch RWBY Chibi.

Yes, the earlier seasons were in general lighter hearted and more comical, but it was never going to stay that way. They were a way of introducing the characters and their struggles to the audience, and now they're dealing with those inner turmoils. This is ALWAYS what Monty intended. I remember seeing somewhere where Monty said he had the outline of the first NINE volumes. I can't remember the exact site I read it at, but I've talked with other long-time fans who have confirmed that he said that.

The fanbase doesn't need self-entitled brats like you claiming you understand this show better than the writers when you didn't even know the man who wrote the show, and complaining when things happen in the show that you don't like. Good bye, and don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split you.

This episode was honestly heartbreaking. For me when Pyrrha died, it wasn't that heartbreaking, but it was now, first seeing Jaune's sword-sword (is that even the correct term?), then seeing Jaune, Ren and Nora sitting there, looking at Jaune's sword and shield. That, including the fight with the horseman and Ruby's letter, it was so sad, on the scale of Clannad: After Story-sad.

I'm pretty satisfied with this volume. It's good to see Nora and Ren is kinda together now...maybe. I didn't like it at first because I couldn't come to terms with the fact my #1 Girl Nora has a thing for a moody guy who doesn't respond/care to notice her obvious affections. But after seeing his backstory my view of him changed a little. It's great to see Yang back in action and I like how Weiss is becoming just a little more rebellious by disobeying her dad and sneaking out. Can't wait to see what Blake is gonna do about the White Fang to change it, and how everyone is gonna reunite. I'm looking forward to the next volume. But until then I hope they make more ruby chibi, at least that will keep me busy.

If you go back and watch all of the interactions between Ren and Nora, you notice that Ren does really pay a lot of attention to her. He will reference her rants and answer mid rant questions with full knowledge of what lead up to those questions. It does take some time to realize it though. At first I thought he looked like he was being terrorized.

NightxSpark I hope not that would be a pretty weak ability considering his amount of aura.

Obviously the longer they're taking, the more important its revelation will be. After 4+ Volumes of build up, its gonna wind being important to the plot at least. Or maybe not. We'll seesee.

Can I tell you guys something? I understand that you're really banking on character development as a strong point of this volume, but I have two main reasons that it wasn't done at a great level (though I'd like to say I didn't think this volume was bad).

#1 It only happened with a few characters.

Sure, you can say that Yang, Weiss, Oscar, and Blake saw some some development this volume, but who else? Jaune? He was sad but ready to move on from Pyhrra's death, but we already knew that. Ruby? No, nothing really changed for her so don't use that letter at the end to pretend she changed in the volume. Ren/Nora? Minor development, but we did get backstory. There wasn't really much from anyone else.

#2 YOU CAN'T HAVE SIGNIFICANT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT EXTERNAL FACTORS DRIVING THE CHANGE.

This has been an issue in volume 1,2, and now 4. In any version of storytelling, characters cannot have realistic change without at least decent levels of external change. People can't simply change overnight. So yes, the lack of major plot elements DID affect the character development this volume. For many of these characters at various points in the show, something minor happened to shift their paradigm completely. Talking about Volume 4,  Yang and Weiss were pretty good because for Yang she struggled for this entire volume, and Weiss' decisions were brought on by her family's actions. In Blake's case, one scuffle did happen, but she kind of changed her ways on a dime. After one conversation with Sun she was all ready to change her mind. And it looks like Oscar was just annoyed into his mission, but wouldn't his mom have something to say about that which would force him into an interesting dilemma that would give us more insight into his character and what he values? His reaction and new decision sure would be interesting. (All of these characters mentioned do have some kind of stimulus for change, but the stimuli would have to be much greater for it to live up the fanbase's perception of the development that took place).

That said, the lack of widespread character growth was realistic given that not many weighty events or revelations occurred. Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on the show; if anything I'm offering improvement suggestions to make it better. I really just want everyone to see what's right in front of them: major and widespread character development comes from story development and new knowledge/experiences in the world they live in. That wasn't super apparent. I appreciate it if you read this in its entirety.

PS: Set up is half a Volume.

All this being said, I definitely believe this can be a fantastic show, and I want it to be. RT, I love you and appreciate the work that you've done and are currently doing.

'People can't change without significant external forces'... uh huh. Such examples do happen a lot, but they're not the 'only' way people can change

Using FFXV Brotherhood as an example, Prompto (who's fat in childhood) wanted to be friends with our main character Noctis, but was shy and self-conscious - he gets a little encouragement from a letter belonging to Noctis' friend Luna, and then decides on his own to lose weight, be more confident, etc etc... he succeeds on his own, without further encouragement or change, thanks to that single minor shift (nothing major involved)

^That's praiseworthy all it's own. And overall, it can definitely happen in real life (or fiction) that simple conversations or moments can be the focal point that changes people, just as much as the big stuff

For starters I don't know when I said 'People can't change without significant external forces'. I simply said that they can't change significantly without significant external forces, but I guess there can be a bunch of little things that add up, which is something the series has improved upon. I mainly just don't feel that we got growth from enough characters. About what you said, I'm not familiar with that series but if all he got was a letter and you didn't see any other struggles, that's a little too easy. Of course I can't really assume that since I've never seen it.

Ps I don't think people/characters need big things to change a little bit; this was mainly in response to the fanbase's (myself included) argument about the "massive" character development that took place.

    • Omegafire18

Well in some peoples' opinions, it probably was massive or similar such, all for reasons. Maybe you don't agree, but that's what subjectivity is for

Just as it's mine opinion that change can happen without 'significant external change', and that I think your 'too easy' response is wrong, seeing as I don't believe my mentioned example was such. Said loss-of-weight/gaining-confidence took years of hard work, and he did it all on his own except for that small nudge... I see nothing about how it was easy whatsoever, though it could just be me.

Just by a few episodes....but from what I understand we are getting volume 5 in a bit....I don't know how long that is exactly....but from the little bit I did read, which could be totally wrong mind you, We are getting it this year...so I assume they are doing it like a proper tv show now, and this is a bit like the mid season gap....but the volume ended...and you know what they say about assumptions, so don't quote me on any of this XD

I'm too lazy to do all the math but this volume is easily longer than Vol 1 and likely longer than Vol 2. There were only two episodes under 15 mins and many of the episodes were pushing 19-20 mins. Factoring the intro and credit sequences, I'd say the run time for the volume would be around 2.5 hours. It might have felt a bit shorter because they had to jump between 5-6 different groups throughout the volume, so each group would have a lot less screen time.
