oddworld
The other day I was feeling nostalgic and decided to brush the dust off my PS1, played around on some games, realized how bad they were until I got to my mom's old Oddworld games. I had played them before as a kid but I never quite liked them. But now I can see just how good they are, easy game play, decent graphics for the time, and most importantly it's plain old fun. I can't remember a time I had that much fun playing an older game, so like any video gamer obsessed i've spent the last few hours researching the developer and keeping an eye out for information and I found... disheartening stuff. Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, released in 2005 was Oddworld inhabitants last game before being closed down by co-founder Lorne Lanning, stating "The way the video game industry is heading I would like to find other media to get into" specifically he meant films. This was five years ago, and there have been NO films from him and NO games from him although he promised both. The reason he shut down was because he wouldn't play ball with EA, yes EA is a bloodsucker but the people there see talent when it's there and Oddworld had it, they would have been willing to give them a longer leash, but Mr. Lorne would have none of that, absolute freedom or no games at all. We can see which he chose, 2 years ago there was a slight ripple from another one of the co-founders, saying "We plan on bringing Oddworld back" They may have been working on it, but they shelved (excuse me Mr.Lanning shelved it) in favor of Mr. Lanning's pet project Citezen Seige, which sounds like nothing but a generic shooter placed in a generic despotic environment, he's been claiming to be working on this game for the past 5 years, along with a partnering CGI movie, but in an interview last year he's stated "It's been put on hold." SO I have a question...WHAT IN THE FLYING FUCK ARE YOU DOING? YOU SHELVE 60 TALENTED GAME DESIGNERS TO MAKE MOVIES, THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN, YOU GET THEM BACK TOGETHER TO MAKE A SHIT GAME, THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN, YOU SAY THERE MIGHT BE MORE GOOD GAMES COMING OUT, BUT THEY'RE SHELVED FOR A SHELVED GAME!!!!!!!! So this guy Lanning is a complete dumb ass obsessing on a personal project, he's refusing to let the amazing developers at Oddworld do what they're best at... MAKING FUCKING ODDWORLD GAMES!
