Times are hard, It's the shits
If anyone's paying attention, they can see signs of this recession everywhere. One day, I was outside smoking a cigarette and a woman asked me for one. I answered that I have none because I got it from someone else. She asks someone else for a cigarette and she gets turned down by them as well. Then I just yell out, "No one has cigs of their own, it's a recession!" It's really sad how true this actually is. The price of cigarettes have risen from 5 to 10 dollars in the last two or three years. These are New York City prices mind you. It's not right for necessities of life (in this case, death) to be such ridiculous prices. Now, I realize that cigarettes have all those vice taxes on them, but I have to believe some of it is inflation as well. Flour last year went from $35 to $70 in less than a month. A sack of rice went from $5 to $13. Gas prices have gone down sure, but when inflation is going up higher than people's salaries are rising, it's basically an assfucking for a lot of people. It also doesn't help that people are losing their jobs left and right. I can name several friends whose parents have lost their jobs. In a few cases, both their parents. And with inflation, their savings mean less and less by the minute. Every time I look at the newspaper or news on TV, I see all this money getting pumped into companies, and still I see even more stories of thousands of people losing jobs. So much of the economy runs on people's faith in it. How the fuck is that supposed to make us feel? There are problems in NYC that really scream out the magnitude of shit we are in. Monthly subway fares are rising from $83 to $103. In addition to that, they're cutting bus lines and using less trains because they're laying off workers. In the colleges in NYC, specifically CUNY and SUNY, they're raising tuition bills AND they're lowering the budget that they get. Less teachers, less tutoring, less classes, less everything else. It seems every day that we're paying more for less. Times like these seem really bleak. And the next few years look more and more like shit to me. Well, to whoever is reading this, doubtfully anyone, it's important to enjoy some things while you can. Sex is usually free. Haha. Complain with friends and have a good hardy laugh at the world, listen to good music, eat good food, drink the best liquor first, and always smell the air and be thankful. |
