Most Anticipated Movies 2012
Last year I made some pretty good and some pretty awful predictions. Of them, I'd say Deathly Hallows: Part 2 was my favourite while Hugo was the surprise standout. Tintin, Tree of Life, Transformers 3 and Drive Angry performed better than I could've hoped. Amazing, unique adventures, all of them. Cowboys and Aliens and Green Lantern were lackluster and I've heard Sucker Punch is terrible. Will I perform better this year? Read on and find out in 2012! Honourable Mention: The Grey January 27th, 2012 2 yeass ago the excellent thriller FROZEN, a harsh tale of isolation in a cold, unforgiving wilderness surrounded by wolves, made my most-anticipated list. Coincidentally it also premiered at BNAT in Austin. Burnie won't shut up about this movie, so it must have something going for it. That and Neeson is the most badass Shakespearean working today. 10) Skyfall October 26th, 2012 Though I'm not 100% sold on Sam Mendes directing, I understand if they're trying to elevate the series to a more sophisticated level. It's been hit and miss so far but still... Bond is back! And about time too. 9) World War Z December 21st, 2012 Marc Forster directed Quantum of Solace, which I consider a miss compared to Casino Royale. Because I love supernatural creatures, it was between this and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. While I think the latter will have style and gore aplenty, I'm convinced this will have the better acting and story. 8) Django Unchained December 25th, 2012 I don't know anything about this movie except what I've seen on the poster. It's a Tarantino anti-slavery Western. How can this not be the setup for something awesomely awesome. 7) Brave June 22nd, 2012 Who can resist a new Pixar? Not me! 6) The Hunger Games March 23rd, 2012 A year ago my little cousins told me about a book sweeping their high school. A month ago I finally completed reading it. Jennifer Lawrence is excellent casting. Gary Ross is the brains behind two exceptional films: Pleasantville and Seabiscuit. This could be one of the best book-to-screen pictures of 2012. 5) The Avengers May 4th, 2012 While I am looking forward to The Amazing Spider-Man, this is the most insane Marvel comic book adaptation attempt in the history of foreverything. A superstar cast has been assembled over five years and in as many blockbusters. The Director is one of geekdom's most iconic living dreamers. Will it be a deck of fan service? Will it fulfil the epic promise? We shall see. 4) The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey December 14th, 2012 Lagging in development hell for a few years, the fellowship returns for two more chapters in the Middle Earth saga. Armed with a decade of experience working on the original trilogy Peter Jackson and his militia are forging into the fantastic with many of the old cast. December can't come soon enough! 3) Prometheus June 8th, 2012 Will this be 2012's Inception, Super 8, Cloverfield? A respected filmmaker with a feverish fanbase. A plot kept tightly under wraps. Promises of sweeping sci-fi wonders. Something tells me this will rank among the very best of the year. 2) The Dark Knight Rises July 20th, 2012 It's Return of The King all over again! Another mega-franchise comes to a close. Can Christopher Nolan steal home? Not to put too fine a pressure on it, but I think he'll deliver the goods. GO BIG OR STEAL HOME! 1) Ender's Game March 15th, 2013 I don't care that it's coming out in 2013 and shouldn't be on this list No film excites me next year as much as the promise of this one. Oscar winning Director Gavin Hood has written the script. Three of the most talented kids working today, Asa Butterfield, Abigail Breslin and Hailee Steinfeld, alongside renowned players Harrison Ford and Ben Kingsley. Is it 2013 yet? What films are you most looking forward to?
Which are you most excited for?
